Aston Martin British GT4 Challenge 2010

  Aston Martin Vantage
Hi All.

Me and my dad did the first round of the Aston Martin GT4 Championship two weekends ago. Our first race weekend together and for the team. I put together a video to do most of the explaining! Lol.

Yea I think the car is too loud for the cameras microphone, which is probably why it distorts. It is a completly different beast to the Seat, had a few 'tank slapper' moments getting used to RWD but have settled into it nicely now!

Yea my dad is indeed, Dave Appleby the 'V6 clio rally car builder extrodinaire'. Also the Metro 6R4 master lol

I was just reading the spec of this series.

Aston Martin said:
It retains the road car’s active safety systems, including dynamic stability control, traction control, ABS and electronic brake force distribution

That takes away most of the challenge of driving it then surely?

traction control doesn't really do much!

Thinking about it the dynamic stability control isn't up to much either judging by the guy at the first corner! Ar you allowed to turn them off if you want?

If you compare it to something similar like the porsche carrera cup the cars are slightly faster and have no ABS, no TC, no stability control etc. Just makes the AM series sound very tame.

The ABS system that's retained actually makes the car harder to drive on the limit, due to the peddle being really inconsistant and the ABS kicks in right when you don't want it to and you end up coming into a corner faster than you would like. All the traction control etc I have turned off, however the only way to remove the ABS system fully is to fit an optional £4.5k peddle box which you have to buy through Prodrive for homologation purposes. Can't wait to save up some pennies to afford to buy it :)

Umm I'm not sure if the car's did hit each other, there was a car retired at the side of the 2nd corner which may well have been that car! Shows how much attention I paid! Lol

Nice one... can you explain more about the series? What is the format like, and the length of the races? Big field?

I probably had my favourite race at Snett against the an AMV8 last year. ABS will of course be a hindrance in the dry, but certainly a benefit in the wet. At least you can brake consistently.

Format is, Practice & Qualifying in one 30 minute session both drivers have to do a minimum of three laps (That's if you have two drivers, can do it all on your own if you like).
Then race in the afternoon, they range from 90 mins up to 150 mins at Spa. Next round is at Silverstone on the 22nd of May. 6 rounds in the whole championship but its the first year they have done it so will probably be more next year. There was only 9 cars on the grid at Snetterton but at Silverstone 16 cars are signed up, so should be fun!
