I think I may give it a go especially as i've been quoted £130 for it to be done by a decent shop

That's the plan! Although I reckon the SWE-815 should be fine, i'm only after sound quality rather than window shaking bass.

Tbf i've also partly chosen it as I can get away with a power connection to the fuse box.

Nice one, i know a lot of people who get that sub for this exact reason.
Saves all the hassle of trying to get the power cable through the bulkhead.
