Auto finesse waxes?

Are the AF waxes any good? I'm getting a free sample one with my order over Easter. Which is the best one and do u think a sample pot will do the whole car? :)

I really like spirit. Currently have desire on very impressed so far tbf.

A sample pot should do the car a few times if applied correctly.

Search for desire test and spirit test.

A sample pot is enough to do a 197 quite a few times, I'll get a pic.

spirit is a nice wax, desire is brilliantly glossy but I really want to try illusion.

I have a fair few - Illusion, Desire, Soul and Passion.

My favourite is Illusion purely for the wet finish it provides but I am a big fan of Soul as an all rounder for the money and durability it offers.

Great results Knuckles , I always enjoy your detailing threads :) do u apply more than one coat? And how thick do you apply? And how long do u leave it before buffing off

apply all waxes as thin as possible. different waxes need to be left different periods to cure before buffing off. I've used all of them, and owned most. All their waxes are pretty decent in there price ranges. Let us know which one you get and we can better advise then.

Hi Javva,

The sample pots will easily do two layers on a medium sized car so gives you a good idea on the wax.

Also what are you looking for from a wax and we'll see what fits your needs.

Hi,

I'm after a glossy finish and some nice beading really! Also if it makes the car easier to wash by laying down some decent protection and lasts a while then that would be a bonus too, but I don't mind topping the protection up every now and then.

Cheers, as yellow belly said really. But I'll add that auto finesse waxes are very oily so a little bit goes a very long way.

A wax is only as good as the preparation, are you going to decontaminate, polish then cleanse the paint prior to wax application? I do that twice/three times a year and it makes keeping on top of it so easy. I applied spirit late last year after a good decontamination and polish and it lasted until a month or so ago

I was going to snow foam, wash, Devon with something like iron x, clay bar, wash, jet wash down and dry, polish with autoglym super resin polish, add auto Glym total gloss protection and then wax

You may want to invest in some tar remover to prolong the life of the clay bar and minimise the risk of dragging s**t across your Paint as the clay fills up.

put a question in the detailing questions thread about layering Egp under a wax. I know layering sealants and waxes can affect the longevity of the coats, but I don't know whether it'll shorten or lengthen the life of the wax

How long do you get from illusion? Doesn't their website say 3 months?

Yeah, if you prep well you will get 3 months in the spring/summer I would say. I don't even bother applying it in the Winter months as it's just a waste really.

I have AG tar remover, that I was going to use anyway, but there's not too much tar spots on my car tbh

Just had a quick google and detailing forums say I should either go;

SRP > Wax

Or SRP > EGP

But not SRP > EGP > WAX

As the wax will bond to EGP and u won't get the full longevity of the wax!

So thanks Knuckles :)

And cheers Lawro Yellow Dave for the input, can't wait to give the car a good going over! It's just a shame that machine polishers cost so much! :( deffo can't afford one atm

You can do quite a bit by hand these days and still get nice results so if your just starting out I would get yourself some good quality basics to get the prep right first and then look at a DA later down the line.. As above, it's important to get the basic's right first!

Apply it as thinly as possible, if you can clearly see it on the panel you've likely applied it too thick. I normally apply to a couple of panels before going back to buff it off, but as always air temperature and humidity plays a part in bow long it takes to cure. After applying swipe your fi ger across the panel, if it smears it's not ready to remove, if it comes up clear it's ready to come off
