Auto Wipers Removal

  The Jinx

Is it possible to disable the rain sensitive part of the wiper mechanism. Its doing my swede in. It goes hell for leather when you dont need it and hardly ever when you do need it.

Id much rather just have a variable speed intermittent.

use that dial thats on the wiper stalk !! that changes the speed and the auto wipers are only on when the stalk is moved down one notch and you have to re do it everytime you turn the car on

Dont think you can disable it. Used to piss me off in the 172 until I realised that it didnt like wax one little bit. When washing your car, make sure you rinse the bit over the sensor really well and it should work better. It was almost working well after about 12000 miles!

yes.. make sure you remove any wax that was there.. if you windscreen wipers smear the water as oposed to wipe it off clean then it thinks there is still heavy rain on the window and keeps trying to wipe..

have your ignition on but not the engine running, turn your lights on full beam twice, then turn your car off and on, hey presto its done..i think.

Should I have auto lights also? The one I test drove did, and this is a Dynamique +.

They certainly arent at the mo. I was hoping I could disable that square on the window and then just use the dial to vary the speed.

Yeah, Rob mentioned how to enable/disable the auto lights

To enable disable the auto wipers do the following. Have the ignition on but can not running, move the wiper stalk down and up twice and that should do the trick (very similiar to the auto lights)

Should get a beep to confirm maybe - easy to test as have your wipers on auto and squirt water at the top middle of the windscreen

With the auto feature disabled does that allow you to use the dial to alter the frequency of the wipe?

I quite like auto wipers, always have. They are great when you pass a truck and get a load of spray. The one thing I dont like about them on the clio is the noise of the relay, its so loud I can here it over my rattles ;)

Is that the clicking noise? Always wondered what that was. The dial should work if you have auto on or off, mines seems temperamental..i always have mine on super fast speed anyway!

I find the auto is good in heavy rain on the m/way. I like the automatic speed adjustment. Its just a pain in the ass when I only want an intermittent wipe.

According to the book the dial does still work, with auto disabled.

heh, you wanna disable it and Im pissed that they started fitting it 2 month after I got mine, and I WANT IT! can never please everyone, lol

I thought the auto wipers where crap.. until I read the manual and figures it was on the least sensitive setting.. hence the only time it came on is when i went past the big trucks on the motorway chucking out loads of spray.

auto wipers are brill now.. only 1 or two times have I had to interfere with the wipers manually .. normally because a car is heading towards me with full beam on and the little amount of rain that was on the windscreen is highlighted so i can see whats on the road ahead.

ps. Rob you got it wrong its ignition on but not started then go to half lights then off then on again and you will get a beep.. not full beam.. no biggie just thought i would correct u

Which is the most sensitive setting?

BTW, got the auto lights working. Why the guy whod had it at the dealership turned them off I dont know. Mind you, I think he was a bit of a dumb fvck anyway, leaving personal info in the car and some lovely hot rock holes.

I switched my auto lights off. On my drive in to work I often (always) sit in slow moving traffic. Everytime I came to a bridge the lights would come on, and being Xenon they are pretty obvious. I got some odd looks from people in front of me so I decided to disable them rather than start an argument with someone one day.

Even though my lights arent xenon im always getting people flashing me up when i have my dipped beams on.

Thanks for the adjustment KDF..i wasnt entirely sure.

Ill have to check my manual to see how to adjust the auto wipers..i never look at it!

TonyKL, Sorry mate, tried your ignition on stalk up and down twice routine but made no difference! No confirmation beep either! Tried this on my 2002 172 and 2003 1.6 Dyn, both of which have Auto/Xenons/wipers:confused:

For the lights: No key in ignition needed, and then turn from nothing-sidelights-nothing-sidelights. It will then beep once for off and twice for on.

I think the wipers is the same principle but moving the stalk down/up instead of lights on/off. Not sure if you just move the stalk down one position and back or whether its all the way to the bottom and up again.

Tried doing the stalk but just one position. Diddly squat. It doesnt mention it in the book either. I also tried leaving it at position 1 and turning the ignition off and then back on. Thus disabling the rain sensor.

It worked, but unfortunately it just didnt do anything at all, not even variable intermittent. It just sat there getting wet.
