Automatic wipers

  Insignia SRi
Is it me or do the automatic wipers on the clio's have a mind of their own no matter what setting you have the sensitivity on!!!

Driving home last night in the rain and it couldnt make its mind up whether they were going to stay on intermitant, fast or really fast, sometimes it fancied a bit of all three!!!! :S

I bet Renault spent millions developing this useless peice of kit!!! Should of stayed with a standard intermediate, fast, off!!! job done!!!

mine have been great, really good at getting just the right speed, but for some reason last night in light drizzel they just would not stop going to hyper mode, sat there with the car rocking at the lights with the wipers going nuts, really winds me up.

Mine didn't seem to want to work at all last night in the drizzle no matter what setting I had them on with the sensitivity thing!!!

Is there something daft like if you switch the engine off with them on the auto (intermittent or postion B I believe in the manual) setting you have switch them off and then back to B next time you start the engine to activate the sensor?

I dont know, but if your right that will make my week seing as London has rain forcast for the rest of the week!!!

Im going to try it later!

The auto wipers in my mates FF182 are s**t. Put it this way, his wiper stalk will wear out long before the one in my poverty spec Cup.

They're useless... completely. As is the 'smart' rear wiper. I want to decide when it goes off... not Renault!

Yup this is true.

I got to the bottom of why mine were crap.
I found that they worked fine until I cleaned my windscreen with some Auto Glym glass cleaner stuff. After that, it must have left some kind of protective film on the window. This caused my wipers to smear, therefore leaving a load of water over the sensor every time and making the automatic wipers go too fast.
I brought new wiper blades but this still happened.
Eventually I stopped using ithe Auto Glym stuff and started using Windolene (yes, the pink stuff) on the windscreen instead. Now the auto wipers work brilliantly and don't have a mind of their own anymore.
If you try it, be careful not to get Windolene on any of the black trim, it's a swine to get off again.
