Been trying Avast again recently and I'm having problems with the mail scanning component. It insists on using 45% CPU to scan all incoming usenet data on the fly, and slows my speeds down from 9mb+ down to 5mb, spiking to 7mb. When I kill the mail scanner my speed goes right back up to a stable speed again. This is a pain as I don't want to disable the mail scanner ny default.
If there is a setting I'm missing, perhaps the Avast geeks could point it out. Otherwise I'll be going back to AVG or perhaps NOD32.
