Back light to heated rear window and heater control

  172
Can anyone please advise me on how to check the illumination that is behind the heated rear window switch and heater temperature dial (below the radio) on the centre of the dash. That side of the 3 dial display has stopped illuminating when the lights are switched on. Cannot see how to get at it. I have a 172 Ph1. Thanks.

might be a bulb that is out.

Best thing to do is take it apart if you can and check the voltage you are getting at the bulb holder using a multimeter or just change the bulb.

i think there are 2 tox screws into the bottom of the centre console which you remove then the whole thing slides out.

Thank you, someone suggested the whole dashboard had to come out? seems excessive? Will reply with result.

Right, the two torx screws do not remove that part of the dials/dash. The whole unit sits behind the lower dashboard. However to save removing the whole lot you can lie upside down in the passenger footwell and with a torch you can see behind the heater/air-con/fan dials. There are two black square ended plugs (one on the left and one on the right). Get some small pliers or similiar and grip the plug (on the side which is not illuminating) turn it ANTI-CLOCKWISE and it will release from the unit. In my case it was the bulb that had blown. Replacement is a reversal of removal. Hope this helps.
