Bent Steering Arm

  Breaking A 172 Replica
Today I bent the steering arm on my clio 1.2.

I have just changed the alloys (now fitted with s**t budgets) and I basically understeered into a curb.

Took it to the tyre place as I though it was just the tracking that made it feel sooo horrible but they showed me the bent steering arm.

Questions:

  1. Can I change just the one steering arm or is a new rack in order?
  2. How many hours would it take a garage to do it? Is it a DIY job?
  3. If someone could post a link to the part I need that would be good (eBay)
Thank you

Sam

Get a new reconditioned rack it will be better in the long run. Also is the wishbone or ball joint bent?

recon rack is the best option, its not that hard to remove/fit, just fiddly. how did you hit the kerb? on full lock 90degs to it or at an angle? wishbones normaly take the brunt of it, id check that too.v How did you understeer into a kerb in this weather!?
Still havnt seen your car yet, even tho you live in the same town.

I am a cheap ass, so when something doesnt need replacing, i dont replace it (eg if the balljoint goes, people will tell you to replace the whole wishbone, i just replace the joint etc)
So i would be first finding out if it needed replacing.

As for the part..

The eBay page or feature you are attempting to access is not responding.
Please try the options below

But wait for someone with dialogys to give you a part number anyway.

i'd buy the one off adam fella, i wouldn't buy something like a steering rack from a breaker in all honnesty

you can change it with the subframe still on, but i would drop the back of it down slightly for better access (or even just remove the entire subframe)

if lemonnoby says its a 30min job, then i'm talking b****cks (although autodata state its a 4hr job, but they're never 100% accurate lol!)

we're £45ph + vat fella

A rack change in 30mins? Surely an impossible feat on a mk2/ Clio, non race car.

i've changed a PAS rack on an 8v clio and autodata stated something around 4 hours to change it and if i remember correctly it was 6 hours with aircon (for some reason)
but it came out fairly easily with the subframe still up and was done in an hour minus tracking,,
