Best and easiest way get more power

  Roadster Coupe
Ive got a Ph2 172, whats the easiest and cheapest way to get a bit more power. I'm after about another 10BHP or more if possible. Cheers

A manifold match should give a good increase, anywhere up to 13bhp has been quoted.

I have a 2.5'' exhaust, sports cat', phase 1 airbox with Pipercross panel and 2x feeds, RS remap and a modified inlet is on the way. This lot has cost me around £1000 and I am hoping for 195bhp when I have the inlet fitted and 165 lb/ft torque.

My last RR showed 180 bhp and 156 lb/ft torque with just the exhaust, remap and Pipercross panel on original airbox.

P.S Ben, off topic, what mods did Almaghrbi (Yaser) have on his Cup to produce 210+bhp and how modded was his inlet?

Thats good. So far ive got a stainless steel cat back exhaust, itg panel filter with cold air feeds. Im looking to get a remap and sports cat fitted. How much does it cost to get a manifold matched? is this the same as port matching?

how much power do you normally get with a remap anyway? Ive seen a few N group ECU's for sale and was tempted to buy one. Ben have you got any before and after rolling road results from using one of you manifolds?

Not the same as port matching.

Drive in/Drive out supply and fitting is £239.70 all inc.

But only one with dyno evidence to show the gains are very tiny.

Not many I agree have been done this way with remap and back to back testing

If however people like it them so be it IMO. Noone listens anway.

try to save weight is a cheap way to start , then few decent mods and remap imo .
not easy to get 10bhp though , needs some money spending

I personally didn't feel that my car felt that different after the inlet work. Once it was remapped though it was quite a bit quicker lower down the rev range and is so much smoother.

I don't think just fitting the inlets is the right way to go, to get the best out of it I think a remap is also required.

a friend in leeds has his stripped, with buckets and soon to be lowered on coilies. makes a massive difference, the accelaration feels so much lighter and easier.

kully is dead right, cheapest and one of the most effective.

well i was going 2 get a cat back exhaust and remap as well 2 go with the inlet manifold. I dont wanna strip out my car that much cos i want it 2 look normal inside. lol i'll just hav 2 take out that old heavy spare tyre!

defo get the decat imo ....... also get all the mods you want done before the remap .

yeh i will do. whats better a group N ecu or a remap?

thats entirely another argument ....... personally i'd say the remap as its designed for the mods you do whereas i believe the grp N ecu is for better exhaust and induction

REMAP  . pm on the way

Isnt group n the raised rev limiter? I have an 8k limit, but power peaks at 6000ish, so dont see the need for the extra headroom. Same with the 172, the power peaked at 6500, so why have an 8krpm limiter?

dave , thats correct but you can get the raised rev range with the remap too .
believe its set to 7600 , near enough 8k on the display (prooven)

What will make you slower though, hitting the limiter/having to change gear or having that extra little bit of room before you top out?

Plus changing later drops you higher up the revs in the next gear.

Just playing Devils Advocate, personally I'd have no need for an increaed limiter but can see why you would maybe.

For track day use its ideal.

well so far i have a cat back and a pipercross viper, i'm sending my inlets to ben tomorow and i can tell you after removing them the bottom inlet were it meets the block is truly horribly matched a good 2mm to take out right round!

i've laso just purchased a 182 manifold, which im just gonna do a little work on smooth the weld from lip and pipe and then add a decat to join it upto my system. After this work has been done i'm driving it down to leeds for a remap off rstuning and im hoping for 180bhp anymore is just a bonus.

so to recap

viper
inlets
hillpower elbow
182 mani
decat
magnex exhaust

oh and quite abit of weight loss, it will do me till i can see what throttle bodies are like :)

im hoping for over the 180's mark. I just want it fast enough 2 beat a CTR! lol fed up of them racing me all the time and showing off.
