Best compact d SLR?

  Ford Fiesta
The time has come when I want a bit more from my photographs.

I want an SLR but not a huge one, but I still want excellent quality photos with the option of good video and a nice zoom lense kit.

Whats the best out there at the minute and what prices can I expect to pay?

I know little if anything about cameras and would like some good advice from those in the know before walking into some shops.

cheers

Liam

Probably one of the Sony's or something, but if you want a decent SLR, you need Nikon/Canon.

What you're asking for doesn't really exist.

Sorry, budget wise sub £500 if I can. But if one is on offer even better.

I realise the more you spend the better you will get, however I cannot justify spending thousands and am sure most modern compact slrs will be great for my use.

In this kind of budget which is the best to go for?

Just been browsing some of these on jessops website

and the Nikon D3000

An m4/3 type of camera sounds like it will meet your needs. Olympus PEN series, Sony NEX series, Panasonic GF1, etc. Can't beat a proper DSLR though!

If you can stretch to it, the Olympus E-620 with twin lens kit is excellent, far better than the D3000. Also smaller and the kit lenses are also smaller. Has a lot of excellent features including in body IS.

Nice review here:

But if you want something even smaller, the Olympus E-450 is a good shout.
