Best head unit for ~ £70

What would you recommend as the best head unit under £70?

Post up any links you have inluding any ebay ones if there are any on there you would recommend.

I don't really know too much about whats best so all suggestions welcome. The only thing is that it would have to be able to play MP3s

Theres a few pioneer units in that range there all basically the same just different colours / designs from what im aware of.

personally i would go on that website that guy has put down and get a kenwood th eone for 65 quid cant go wrong wi kenwood and cos your only gettin a cheap one i would buy a pioneer or somert crappy like that. kenwood!

I got a good JVC unit last year, never had a problem with it. Quite reasonably priced too

Yep spot on mate! For around £70 Id go for pioneer or jvc. Jvc do some decent budget units.

if you could stretch a lil bit more then u can get a far better headunit for like 90ish mp3 for 70 will be hard to come across there is a £85 pioneer 1 which seems good with mp3 playback. pioneer is good aswell ive got a pioneer 1 i wouldnt say kenwood is crap but u can get 1s better for ur money with alpine n pioneer

kenwood suck balls haha then why do a few people go for ful kenwood set ups and swear by them. i have to admit tho my jvc head unit the one with changedable front [fireballs] is a lot better than my m8s who has the kenwood which cost him around 100.

My mates the same he would choose a kenwood over anything. Personally i think they dont sound as good as most other main stream makes and they deffinately dont look as good. Plus the amount of chaved up cars i see with HUGE kenwood stickers in the bakc just maeks me wanna say no.

And for £70 you can get an MP3 pioneer unit.

jjoe90, perhaps because they know absolutely nothing about ICE and read 2,500W PMPO and are bowled over by it. Their sound is horrible in comparison to a similar specfication Alpine/Pioneer unit.

But you seem to be answering your own question with what you stated in your post. Forget about numbers, claims and everyhing else - you have to hear them through the same speakers side by side to appreciate the finer details and audiostage presented by a decent unit.

Yes, couldnt agree more. I would not ever own a kenwood or sony piece of equipment for my car. Mainly cos I hate to be ripped off. For the same money you can get much better quailty. But then sound quality is much more important to me than looks.

But generally i like alpine units they may not be as pretty as most of the others but they sound good for the price.

But id love a nak unit.

i just wanted to say kenwood food processors and kenwood audsio equipment 2 different companies therefore saying they should make food processors wrong. i just felt like being annoying was in one of those moods.

It was an more of an oxymoron to be honest, just they seem to be better at producing super-frothy drinks makers and things to chop carrots than making ICE.

Perhaps they should start putting headunits in food processors - least over the sound of the blender you won't hear the quality of the playback

kenwood make good blenders and toasters etc, they should stick to that

Looks like I've started something here, lol. I'm just wanting something pretty cheap that isn't going to be really crap sound quality TBH. I'll have a look through some of the links in this thread.

If anyone has any other suggestions let me know.

In the end I got THIS unit. It's the JVC EXAD KD-LHX601 which the cheapest I could find was about £270 I think on then net but I got it off a guy on Ebay for £95 including delviery and a DAB aerial (worth £30 by itself) so I'm pretty pleased with that.

Not had a chance to hook up the DAB yet and I also need to work out where my aerial for normal radio plugs in - but I'll look throught the instructions later on to see.

Opinions on the unit?

Never actually used a JVC unit my mate has one in her car looks pretty nice and didnt seem that bad though.

But for less than £100 cant really go wrong.

Deffinately better spec'd than the other units. Anyways. Just in that price range theres better but when you put it into what you paid for it. Id have snapped it up as well.

Yeah, I'm sure you could get a better unit for £270ish but as I say I only paid £95 and can't see that there would be too much more to be had for that price.
