Best Place to Buy a Sony KDL32V4000U LCD?

As per title...seen one at Richer Sounds for £370.00 which seems pretty good and looked elsewhere on the net but this seems just about the cheapest unless anyone else has any other suggestions, Costco etc?

Also, possibly considering a PS3 simply for BR capabilities and media capabilities. Still worth it or is a dedicated BR player the way to go now?

One more thing, want to hook it up to my Sony component stereo and laptop, is this possible and if so how. Ideally I want my TV, stereo, laptop (with mp3s) and movie player all integrated.

Sony PS3 is great at Blu Ray but think its bettered now on quality and price.

Other thing is PS3 doesn't support HDMI CEC, so switching your PS3 on won't turn your TV on, then to right hdmi channel and turn your 5.1 on (a Blu Ray player should if connected Blu Ray -hdmi-> 5.1 on -hdmi-> TV on)

If you aren't bothered about that then, PS3 -hdmi-> TV and PS3 -optical-> 5.1.

Only HD sound via HDMI I believe though.

i have ps3 with optical cable for sound, not got a HD amp to know whether it can send HD sound through the cable though, its fine for 5.1 though.
 
get John Lewis to price match as they give a 5yr warranty, try empiredirect
 
Cool thanks for the advice guys. My amp is about 4 years old though, can't remember the model number but it just has standard 2 pin input I think, it is a stereo amp first and foremost over a specialist home movie one, will this be ok, I am assuming it will be as I currently have my old DVD player hooked up to it via scart, can take a picture of the connections if needed?

John Lewis only price match retail outlets though, and the Empire stores are more expensive than online.

Play.com do it for £385 with a 3 year warranty, but you might aswell pay £399 and get the extra 2 years.

TBH, for TRUE HD or DOLBY HD, you ideally need a 7.1 speaker set up I think, and I don't know if there are many (if any) Blu Rays/games with 7.1 audio. I think most are 5.1, so optical is perfectly fine. I think a 5.1 signal over HDMI will allow it to be uncompressed which optical can't handle, but not sure if there is a huge increase in sound quality/clarity/etc.. 5.1 is enough for me for now TBH.

Your amp will only do stereo then, which would prob best be connecting PS3/Blu Ray via HDMI to TV and then RCA cables from the TV's audio output into your amp.

You'll notice massive differences in picture quality with a DVD via HDMI let alone if its upscaled or using a Blu Ray over the DVD via scart. The PS3 can do all these things and is ideal if you want to play the odd game, browse the net or use it as a media centre type device. If not, I'd prob just get a Blu Ray player TBH. Search the net for best prices as What HiFi generally use shop prices, so should be a bit cheaper than what they have stated.

JL will only price match the instore price and will add on the price of delivery and I think (but am not totally sure on this) the price of a 5yr warranty. Still worth a shot but if not, will just delay the purchase by a week. ATM for that TV, I don't think its beatable.

I just bought the 40" 1080p version for £600 once it came back into stock last week and within a few days it was out of stock and prices back up to £800. They do some cracking deals but generally they don't last long so be quick!
 
Just to add, if you don't want to play games, I'd personally get the Panasonic DMP-BD35 at first glance. It just won the What Hi Fi 2008 Best Blu Ray £200-300. It can be had from around £240+ online.

Have a look around the net and decide who you want to buy from. Personally, I'd get it from

but only because I've bought from them before and they were very pleasant to deal with *my opinion only, I don't want any bother if you end up having bother with them lol*

But check out the link I left in the above post, and decide for yourself. Don't buy solely off my recommendation as I haven't really looked into Blu Ray player as I already have a PS3. Buy whatever you think you'll be happy with after reading different reviews, owners reviews and even the manual (pdf from manufacturers site generally) so you know what you're getting. That's what I do for all electrical items and have always been happy with what I've purchased.

I am thinking the PS3 could be good as we have wireless internet and the TV is in my room, other BR players don't have this facility do they? Not bothered about the games at all really as I have a 360 but I guess I would probably get exclusives like LBP just because I can. ;)

The PS3 is great at Blu Rays, its not the best though. But I'm not sure if there will be a lot of difference on a 32" TV. Maybe on a 46/50" @ 1080p maybe, I don't really know too much about that though.

The PS3 does make up for this though with all the extra features, 80GB (160GB soon) harddrive for storing music and videos etc and can play off USB sticks, internet is good although a bit fiddly with the controller, a keyboard would be better as would getting the PS3 Blu Ray remote. And of course gaming exclusives, LBP, Gran Turismo eventually lol

And no, I don't think any other Blu Ray player has wireless.

I work in JL and cant fault them!

I always use RGB to price match in JL so i guess best of both.
 
I bought the 32V4000 for my mother while I own the 32D3000. Although its a fantastic TV (for the money) I'd be tempted to pay the extra and go for the 32W4000 (much better TV).
 
Yes it's the KDL32V4000U and the DVD/surround system is the DAV-DZ260. The details are a bit sketchy because they haven't actually started advertising it yet, the TV alone is now being advertised for £399, she had a bit of a shock when I told her I'd reserved the package deal :D
 
That's a stonking deal. That DVD system is around £120 itself.

The D3000 is suppose to be a great set as well. Never seen one myself though but have only heard praise about them.

The 32W4000 is superb but is wayyyy more expensive. If you've got the money but limited to 32" then its defo the one to get. I got my 40V4000 with 5yr warranty for less than that though (lucky timing of buying).

Schweppy, JL have been great. Refund has gone through for my 32" TV that had probs. Only one negative point about JL (in entire time of ever using them!), the guy that took the order for my 32" TV for some reason made a transaction of £1 on my Dad's credit card without telling us, and then says the car payment for the TV wont go through. While still on the phone, the card company calls us and tells us what's going on, so we question him about it and he denies it completely! What a t**t. Finally got the payment sorted, don't know if we got that £1 back though lol

Yeah it can be done. I hadn't got round to doing mine so trying now but my windows media player is being crap and not sharing.
 
My mum didn't want the surround system so it's in the for sale section if anyone needs one.

Is this TV better than the one I was interested in then? Seems a cracking deal, as can use the surround sound downstairs with my other Bravia.
 
Yes it is Brand. Its a great deal on. Just decide if you prefer a 5yr warranty or a pretty much complete system.
 
Ah no, this deal no longer seems on :(

Anything similar around, would probably be equally or more interested in a BR player to go with the TV than surround sound though as I intend to hook that up to my component stereo (even if it's only 2 channels, they are 2 very good channels!)
