Best Road Tyre / Size?

  BG182 FF
Hi guys,

I know the default sizes are 205/45/16 for the standard 182 CUP wheels. I've done a lot of research and it seems like the Rainsport 3's could be good and also the P-Zeros (nero?).

I've currently got Rainsport 2's on the back from when I bought the car but the fronts are P-Zeros and running low. I've also got some new brakes so i'd ideally like to do the two together. I've not used the car with a pair of new P-zeros so i couldnt judge them but from what I read the RS3's are supposed to be pretty decent for road use in wet old england?

I'll move the RS2's to the front anyways but would like to get some decent wheels for next time.

Should I stick to the standard size? I see some people go 195/45/16 - Is there really much difference on the road?

I use 195 45 16s as they are cheaper.
Im a big fan of RS2s, had some RS3s on my wifes megane and seemed ok, so I put some RS3s on the clio in Jan and they were on canvas within 5 months and around 6k. Fairy hard driving but no track use.

RS3 lasted less than 12K on the front of my Focus diesel, but wear is the trade-off for grip, and I'd rather have grip especially in the wet.

12k i'd be happy with, even 9-10, but 6!, especially when the RS2 last longer and give better grip.
I also used the wifes megane on track with the RS3s on and tore thru to canvas the close to edge/sidewall - tyres still had an even 6mm tread. Far to soft walled - even when used enthusiastically maybe ok as general/winter tyre - but defo not for a summer tyre. I have conti 5s on at mo which seem ok, little slippery when wet, but damp and dry seem positive, will have to wait for wear rate.

Thanks for the responses. I've seen RS3 XL so should give a slightly firmer side wall? might go for these. £77 each on black circles, could be decent?

Start at 32 psi front, 29 psi rear and tweek the up and down a couple of psi either way to find what feels best,
A strong sidewall tyre like a track tyre or XL rated will run very slightly lower pressure.

Nice one steve - off topic but where do you get your servicing done? I'm based in Borehamwood and you are just up the road

I took mine to Mick at Diamond Motors for the belts etc.
Regular items like oil changes, pads, suspension I do myself.
