Best Server Anti-Virus

Come on guys, what you think, we're getting rid of symantec cause it's too resource heavy on our clients. Can purchase anything we like really. We're after a failry resource light, good AV solution for around 150 users. Already have message filtering systems and internet traffice filters so it'll be the last tier of security.. suggestions from those in the know?

yeh we had that, it's the threat protection, stops everything, again too resource heavy though..

thought mcafee and symantec were similar in problems? might give it a go though...any more?

symantec = shiote, when they upgrade they just add on top of the old stuff, so say you start with 200MB file they add an update nots 260MB then another 400MB then more and more, this just slows things down!!!

not the best software? how'd you mean?

It's OK.
It can cause the odd problem from time to time.. but the support at Sophos will always get it fixed.

We have deployed it probably to thousands of PCs and hundreds of servers, and does seem to work well.. good from the manangement side, too.

But, I've found if it starts giving you problems, it can be a pain to resolve (altho, that was Sophos PureMessage which is the Spam filtering service)

I can get you a price if you want? (We're Sophos resellers) :p

Altho, I've NEVER seen anyone say Symantec is resource heavy - I'd say it's probably one of the lightest out there (for Symantec AV only)

using symantec corporate in a lot of companies i've worked for, but this place has had it and weren't happy we need something a lot more lightweight..

i've just applied for the sophos trial so i'll see how it goes, we only need anti virus i guess as we have filtering systems on internet traffic and email which should sort out most stuff.

Symantec have the corp side of things wrapped up, never had any issues with it really. Catches around 650 virus attacks a month on average and not one infection....yet

another vote for sophos here, although we don't use av on our servers, if your policies and FW and network security are good you don't need it, hence no extra resource, our mail gets scanned by mimecast before it even hits our servers.

we use sophos on the desktop though and sophos as a company are one of the good guys, we too are one of their resellers, we can get any av for free and we choose sophos so i'd always recommend them.

I'll second Sophos too, deployed throughout and very good management and reporting.
The other week they issued an update that was flagging a file that was part of Serif graphics packages, we submitted the file to them and by the following morning they had issued a new update and it was fixed.

running sophos, easy to use thats for sure, great part of it is having them rollout and uninstall 3rd party av software...

For servers, CA ITM software. Excellent support and really doesnt use any resources when configured.

Support for product always ends in a representive calling you back and ive never had one problem with it.

Even has a group roll out policy so it can be deployed even without users knowing.

Polices/updates/scans can be pushed from server also.

Email gets scanned by SoftScan and cuts out everything that is remotely crap. Excellent tool.

  Better than yours. C*nt.

We use Sophos and it appears to be extremely light on client usage. Highly recommend it as far as not being intrusive is concerned, and I've never had a virus outbreak!

i upgraded from symantec to avg for server + 20odd clients recently and been impressed.
symantec was 'ok' but a complete b**ch to redo if/when you added licenses or reinstalled machines. also, 3 years of avg + antispam + bell n whistles compared to just over 1 year for symantec 'basic' av
we also have all incoming mail scanned for free via clam av and spamassassin on a nix box too :D which saves me lots of headaches as we get around 1k of spam email a week and around 20 virrii which the nix box has always caught

tried avg didn't like the interface that much and found it rather overcomplicated a bit like ESET. Sophos is the simpliest bya long shot. Still hard to narrow it down really, bit of a minefield
