[Clio_novice]

H everyone as you might tell from my name im a novice when it comes to cars, as im 18 and just bought my 1st one; a clio 1.4 rt.

Well more to the point, can someone tell me the bhp of a standard 1.4rt? I was considering improving the bhp but ent sure of the best ways so can someone tell me how much change i can get from each mod? eg. induction kit..........

james got about 87 bhp at the flywheel today on his RT. think there about 80 standard. he has an induction kit and a big ass twin exit exhaust

The key to more power is to get your engine working more efficiently to get the inlet charge (air and fuel) into the cylinders quicker and in greater quantity; and then to get rid of the exhaust just as quickly and efficiently to make room for the next incoming inlet charge.

Thats why the first power mods most people do are the exhaust and air filter. Youll hear a lot of talk on here that seems to go against the grain of whats recommended in the mags, thats because Clios like the 16v/Williams/172 have a lot of engine packed into a very small engine bay and run very hot. Induction kits for example are no good at all under these conditions.

However on a 1.4 RT as James proved today, there is enough room in there for cold air induction to be possible using an induction kit and also the engine itself doesnt run that hot. So first mod for you should be to get an induction kit and make sure you have a good chunky cold air feed from the front of the car. Next stop is the exhaust. You can start with just the back box if you want a bit of noise, or if you actually want power as well go for a cat back stainless system, then you can add a decat pipe later to complement the induction and exhaust mods.

mine still gets hot way too quick but i think thats because i have to keep up with thew 16v, why dont any other 1.4s join the events??
my exhaust is custom so cost a lot more than a std full exhaust, you can get them for someting like £200 fitted for a cat back system. that will add a load, well for an RT n e way.

Yeah thats a good point, it only every seems to be James who turns up. Hes not ashamed of his 74bhp, why doesnt any other 1.4 Clio come along for these things.

love the noise of the exhaust, had a lotus elise pull up by me on the motorway and signaled that he wanted a race..
lost sooo badly but when caught him up at a roundabout my car stuck to the tarmac, by then it was a single road so all he had was the back of my car and the deep note of the exhaust

i am having a side exit zorst made up so it will be super loud, and have bought darrens engine. SO hopefully it shoud really shift, also making a custom intake system, which i might make for other RT is i can generate interest.

well, his engine is running off the 1.8 SPI system off the laguna. So i am hoping to use samco hoses that lead from the throttle body to the front eft wheel arch. If you look down there then you will see a hol which makes the area behind the front left fog accessable to put a sealed air filter (i.e. viper or twister) which can then be linked up to the front fog area once the foglight has been removed. Hoping to use a brake coooling duct. This will mean, the pipe from the filter to throttle body is very long, so air will be moving fast, as thius mean more torque...hopefully.

Rob who came to the rr day did a similar thing i think and got a massive gain but he need to uprate the power boost valve to get the petrol in quicker.
