I’m looking to swap my 1.2 clio 16v

i understand that it would be a lot cheeper to just buy a quicker car but I would like to keep this car as it is my first car and would like to keep it and have as much fun in this cassis as possible

what engines would be the easiest to swap?

In all seriousness, I engine converted my mk2 clio 1.2 16v back in 2008/9.

if I had it all to do again I’d just buy the sport, as soon as you’ve bought it you’ll forget about your first car.

Far cheaper and most likely more reliable. Lots less headaches.!

Difficult to insure, less reliable, worth less than a 1.2, difficult to sell on, loads of work.

As someone who has done various engine swaps over the years I would encourage you to forget about your Clio - sell it and buy something else.

Just as a minor heads up, you've used your full name on a forum and posted a nice shot of your number plate and your age.... thats info people could use to make your life difficult

I’ve done engine swaps in the past and I’d only suggest them in 2 very specific scenarios. Anything else is a waste of time and money and effort!

1. The car doesn’t come with the engine you want and the cost of tuning your current engine is greater than the cost of a replacement. E.g c20let into a Corsa, m5 v10 into a E46 m3 etc.

2. The car does come with the engine you want but said car is either ridiculously expensive/rare or is old and you can’t get one in good condition with the engine you want. Again, example could be dropping larger 6 pot engines into an excellent E36 she’ll rather than buying one that has more holes than metal.

Your Clio doesn’t tick either box so for me I wouldn’t bother. You’d also have to consider the upgrades to brakes, suspension, wider track to accommodate the items from a 197/200 which then leads to paint, bodywork etc. It gets very out of hand very quickly!

With all the extra wiring involved with modern cars you're in for a complete nightmare. You'd essentially need a complete donor car to make it work correctly.

So it's neither cheap, nor easy.

I think - lets be realistic here. If he is 17 he is not going to be doing any kind of engine swap or sport buying.

Just enjoy it, crash it, repair it badly and carry on enjoying it until your old enough to but something better and be able to insure it for less than £10k a year.
