Bird cr*p on my bonnet

  Partner's Astra SRi
Popped out to my car at lunchtime and my bonnet was covered in bird crap. Didn't have time to clean it off as I had to get back to work so I thought I'd be alright to clean it off when I got home.

So, 4 hours later, cleaned the bird crap off. Took ages, there was bloody loads of it. Seriously, never seen bird s**t like it!! And it's marked my paintwork really badly!

So, what's the best way to sort this out? How can I get the paintwork back to how it was? Any help would be seriously appreciated.

Modern water based paints etch like anything - especially the stuff Renault use. As above a polish should sort it out as long as it is not to deep.

Could do , but there are alot better products than t cut tbh , like the 2 i mentioned . If you already have some t cut give it a try , nothing to lose really .

T Cut will probably remove it but in doing so install lots of smaller finer marks. Use at your own risk.

Don't want to use it then if it'll make it worse. Will try the scratch X stuff as the other stuff is out of stock.

Thanks very much!

The scratch X will take a few applications, keep working it till it is gone (needs to be used until there is little or nothing to remove for it to do it's job) and repeat as needed.

Be careful though if the marks look deep as you don't want to remove all the clearcoat/lacquer in that area.

i had this problem, you need a new bonnet, trust me

A new bonnet after a few hours!?!?!? i doubt it, mayb a few weeks but not a few hours! Just give it a good clean an polish an it should come off. Waste of time buyin all them expensive products above when itll come off with water and a good scrub most of the time!

Polish ! With what should she polish her bonnet ? If you read the original post she's already washed the bird sh1t off and it " has " marked her bonnet . It doesn't take long for anything acidic like bird sh1t to etch into the paint .

I wouldn't exactly call scratch x expensive at 8 pound odd or even the carlack 68 at 14 quid ;)

^^ £8 and £14 i bloody well would as a skint student lol. I always seem to get bird s**t off even when its been on for days it still come off for me, must have some pretty unhealthy birds round ur way!

Your MK1 is probably painted with older solvent paint unlike this newer waterbased shite ...

I've never had a problem with it before, but trust me, this was some uber bird poo!! I've never seen anything like it!!! I've got some pictures of the damage to put up later.

They apperentley pick up mud and grit when eating worms! dont rub the s**t it can be corrosive to laquor also if left for long period sponge it off! , depends on what they eat?

I've already got the crap off, it's the marks it's left behind on my paint I wanted to know how to get off....

Use the item mentioned earlier on (scratch x) see how you get on with that.

Can you post up the pics later on ?? I reckon i've got a pic of my old valver to rival it;)

Pmsl @ the needing a new bonnet comment, I very much doubt it.

I will go take pics now, bonnet is a bit wet from the rain so dunno how it'll go. It's not actually as bad as I remember it to be but it's still there :(
I'll also do some before during and after pics with the scratch x stuff.

Ok, not the best of pictures as my camera isn't that great at close ups. Plus my car is extremely shiny atm!! ;)
I'll try get some better pictures later

How deep does the etching look, does you finger nail catch in it much?

Does not look to bad looking a the pic.

  Partner's Astra SRi
That's the only picture that came out any good. Trust me it looks a hell of a lot worse!! And it's not just that area, there are 5 more areas.

Yeah, when I run my nail over it it catches a bit

Sorry for the hi jack, this is what I was greeted with when I returned to my car in the morning after one night out a few years ago. Lesson learnt, never park under some trees round your mates house !

I managed to get the whole lot off & most of it had burnt through the laquer:dapprove: After a lot of hard work it came out un-marked
