Bird droppings....

  Black 182 FF
Since I got my BG 182 I've become more and more aware of how easily they scratch and the paint gets marked and as a result I've polished and cleaned it more than I have done with any other car in an attempt to deal with this.

This morning I got up to go to work and went out and I saw on the rear drivers quarter what can only be described as a massive massive bird crap on it, comprising various different colours in cluding yellow and purple. I noted it and went to work as usual, with the intentions of cleaning it when I got home.

I have heard people before mention how bird droppings can mark paintwork, so when I got home I quickly got to work cleaning the car. First off I got the hose out, which isn't particularly powerfull but it removed most of it. Then I started using some shampoo which removed more. Then I got the hose on it and repeated it again, then shampooed, then hosed again.

I then decided as the bird poo was removed, but there was a mark there that I should get some polish out. So I started with some Autoglym SRP which I thought would easily remove it. After three loads and a decent amount of effort - it was still there! So I went in the house after my Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0. After an awful lot of effort and three big 'dollops' of the Scratch x on it, it removed most, but from certain angles it's still visable.

Can anyone reccomend something to get it out completely and do other people have similar problems with BG? I've had many many cars and I can't ever recall having pain this soft on a car - it's unreal how easily it scratches.

When I had my 1.2 the poo took my paint off! It does etch into the paint as it has acid in it. If all fails wet sanding is the route to take.

1; you shouldn't have left it
2; you need to find a machine polish pro to take it out for you

Sadly Perry bird droppings are highly alkali due to the Urea that's included (they do number 1 and 2 together, hence the colouring). If you don't remove them straight away they burn through the clear coat, much like acidic wheel cleaners dulling the effect of your wheels paint.

You can remove the marks with a machine polish - this removes some of the top clear coat. I same some - microscopic amounts. So instead of removing scratches, you are removing a "burn".

Hope this helps.

Once they are on they do not come out do they? I have some on my roof on my Fiesta and I cant get it off, it was obviously left on there for a long while before taken off.

I know it needed cleaning, sadly I didn't have a choice due to working commitments and time.

I'm just a bit pissed off tbh as I've had many other cars covered in the stuff and not had the same problems after less than 24 hours. Guess I'm getting a little bit dis-heartened with how easily my car scratches compared to other cars I've had too.

The whole car needs a machine polish due to scratches, but some people I've talked to are saying you can't really do black as it just create swirls - is this true, or am I talking to the wrong people?

You're talking to the wrong people lad.

Good, at least I can do something about them. It's just finding someone good in my area.

And cheers for the help people.

No worries. There are several companies up there, but you might want to find a local yocal like me who will do it for you as a hobby rather than a business (i.e. cheaper).

Or you can travel to me as Becca aka Needster on here did. Cheshire is not that far ;)
