Bird Poo Marks. Grrrr.

  Cup Packed 182 FF
I got attacked this morning by a seagull (one with diarrohea by the look of it). I've washed the car as soon as I got home, but now pretty much every single one of those splats has left a mark in the lacquer. Is renault paint just really rubbish, and is there something I can do about this?

Bird shite etching is a nightmare on modern water based paints, have you tried to remove the etching with any sort of polish yet ?

ide try whatever you can asap because those will bite in and you'll end up needing it sanding back to bare metal and treated.

I've only washed it at the moment as I wasn't sure what the best way to go would be. I've got some t-cut which I don't fancy using much and some polish, but I wasn't sure if that might seal the marks in rather than get rid of them.

I would try something like Autoglym Super Resin Polish first, chances are it will need something more akin to Meguiars Scratch X if working by hand and some real elbow grease. I hate T Cut so would say no to that.

Depending on the depth of the etching it may need a machine polish to sort it.

It is an old fashioned abrasive product and the game has moved on now.

It cuts the same strength whether just applied or worked for 10 mins, it always has a strong cut meaning it installs very fine swirls taking out bigger defects. New modern day polishes contain diminishing abrasives meaning they start of with a strong cut, but as you polish with them and work them properly the polish cut breaks down changing it into a finer finishing polish that will not install the fine swirls that the T Cut will.

Newer polishes are safer as they don't keep cutting and cutting and produce better results.

Oh I see. You are the man so I will take your word for it. What can you suggest as a T-Cut alternative?
I have Auto Glym Resin Polish as well as T-Cut. That any good in comparison

SRP is very very mild so will do little in the way of defect correction.

Working by hand the best alternative to the T Cut is Meguiars Scratch X or the Carlack 68 Scratch and Swirl Remover Paste.

Machine use any of the Poorboys, Megs Pro Line Polishes or Menzerna range.

Just tried some (admittedly old) polish and it hasn't touched the marks. Where can I get some of this Scratch X from tomorrow?

Cheers. I'll try that and cross my fingers. I wouldn't mind so much but the offending paste was only on the car for half a day.

9/10 times you won't get the mark off! I've got about 10 on the vee, better than they were yes, but it has ruined the paint. And i'm certainly not going to cut throught the clearcoat just to get them off!

There was one on the bonnet when I bought the car but after a few mild hand polishes and goes on the PC it has virtually gone. Ironic thing was the day after I PCd it - I came outside to find the whole car covered in turd!

Those bloody birds eh...and rain, mud, insects... basically everything outside is dirty! ;)
