Bit of a dilemma

Well it's coming up to the end of my first year's driving, and I've made it through without even a slight dent or a curbed alloy, so that's good. My insurance renewal found its way onto my doormat today, and it's gone from £1600 (£150 a month) to £933 (£85 a month). This is with Quinn-Direct. Now I heard someone on here the other day saying something about Quinn-Direct, and that they aren't bothered about modifications, unless they affect the power of the car in any way, a few insurance companies are like that apparently.

The problem is, with Norwich Union I've been quoted £735 (around £70 a month) but that would involve paying £150 deposit, swapping companies and then finding out if I wanted to add wheels to it (which is becoming highly likely) that they're going to sting me for that and I end up paying more than I would with Quinn-Direct. My mate just says "Well, for the difference it could end up working out, stay where you are and save the hassles of cancelling debit's etc" But I'm undecided.

Should I refuse the renewal quote and go with Norwich Union or not? Any tips or advice are greatly appreciated. I'm the type who's anything for an easy life so it's an arse really that Quinn-Direct didn't come out cheapest.

Cheers

Edit: Incase it's relevant, I'm 19 with a 1.2 55plate Clio Extreme 4 (75BHP) with 1 years no-claims (well I will have in May).

Shop around. Always do this at renewal time - even if you think the renewal price is ok.

Plus you can always ask for two quotes from them, a "standard" one and one with non-standard wheels to give you some idea of how much difference it is going to make.

Dont take the easy life, shop around and find the best quote, it's all part of the yearly insurance renewal fun time!

try someone like confused.com or elephant as you can select up to 6 modifications. you'll be surprised with the differerence it makes.

confused.com gave me the £730 quote from Norwich Union, and elephant with possible mod's for the future, as a ballpark figure came out at £1300, which is too high. Nevermind.

confused = not very good

i went on there for a quote and it said direct line wouldn't give me a quote at all, then i went on directline.com and got a really decent quote!

tbh shopping around for insurance is nothing now most companies offer an online service, so just type in car insurance on google, and every company it finds, go do an online quote, u r bound to find the right one then.
