black polish

CAn anyone suggest a product to clean up the black trims on my clio? also anyone know a really good glossy polish for my silver paintwork?

for black trim, there is nothin better than Auto Glym Bumper Care..........trust me !

Mix 1/8 cricket bat oil and 7/8 turps/ white spirits. You will have to wipe the dirt a few times though and let it dry.

There was a recient thread about this have a search (I still cannot remember what the oil is called)

easy. throw the back to black away now! if u ever need any paintwork done in the future itll all go pete tong. dont use anythin on your car that has silicone in it, trust me, ima doctor.

Polish: The polish test produced a surprise. Wax it Wet is not a conventional wax, but is easy to use and provides great protection. A1 Speed Wax was the best performer, but the high price counted against it. Turtle Wax Extreme and the Wonder products from CarPlan are also worth taking a look at.

I think some people use boot polish.. seemed to work mint!

I have some Autoglym Bumper stuff.. will try that..

I do have Turtle Wax Bumper/Dash/Tyre shine.. which sucks on everything apart from the dash - it makes a good job of that!

Dont use any of the above on your exterior plastics. Theyre crap. Every last one of them, as well as a con. By all means use them for the rubber though.

For the exterior plastics get yourself down to Boots and get some nail varnish remover, but make sure it contains acetone. Just use this sparingly on a cloth and youll be amazed. You really dont need any of the above. This stuff (the acetone) removes all the in grained crap. Just used it on my 11yr old valver which had plastics which had gone almost whitish/grey. Now the exterior trim is all dark grey again, without the use of anything else.

Its the best tip Ive ever received regarding body care.

my mums Nissan Sunny bumper actually WAS white, its now a dark grey thanks to Auto Glym Bumper Care, which is NOT crap........

I wouldnt put that on plastic bumpers if I were you! If you put some nail varnish remover/acetone into a plastic cup, it melts it and the cup shrinks!!

Err. I have put it on. Did it on my 02 dci 8 months ago to remove some chalky polish stains, and it doesnt melt the plastic. All the care products are silicone based which makes them look nice, sure, but how long before you have to repeat the process.

The silicone also seals in any grime thats already there. Plastic is porous you see, so just a wash wont clean it of all the soot and oils that it comes in to contact with over a period of time.

I knew no one would believe me. You could ask those that were on the NW run to the peaks that had a close look at my car. Pul1178 would confirm what the plastic looked like.

I did use the williams F1 stuff after in a bid to seal out the grime. But this was only because I bought the F1 stuff before finding out about acetone. I may not use it in future.

He who dares wins, and saves a few pennies. You can use vaseline on the rubber BTW. Again much cheaper than buying other products.

autoglym is much better than back to black, it doesnt last forever, about 6 months i found but you get loads in the bottle so its all down to time really not money.

unless of course you think £5 is a lot of money!!

Auto Glym Bumper Care lasts weeks, if not a few months.........im still using the same bottle i bought middle of last year

Yeah but properly cleaning them first means it last months if not years. Thats what Im driving at. (no pun intended)
