blocking people from my website?

  Fiat Panda 100hp
Or person in this case. I don't want a certain somebody going on my site, I know admins on here can block IPs so can I do it? I have his IP (from my site stats) just need means to block it.

thanks

...problem might be if he is on ADSL, he could just unplug his modem and plug it back in to get a fresh IP...

We cant block IP's.

Even if you did, they can use another computer/proxy and most people dont have static one.

Why? Just out of interest.

Its not gonna happen realy, It will near on be impossible to block an individual from your website.

thats bilge, of course you can block an IP, VB + virtually nay forum I know of certainly has the ability whether its implemented is a different matter.
I'm no php/html expert but its how websites such as the BBC + NBC only allow downloads to certain countries due to IP / host lookups.

However, you would have to be a numpty not to be able to get around it tho (unless you are actively blocking tor or public proxies etc)

v easy in apache http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum92/3947.htm

As said above its very hard. If the person knows fook all and is on a static IP address then its easy however they could just use and IP website o get round it, like we all do if we want to watch something that only American IP's can.

Why so you want to block out of interest?

He reads it to see what my girlfriend is up to... I don't put in depth stuff up or anything like that but I'd rather he not be pretty much stalking my girlfriend as I'm sure you would all feel the same!

And before you ask...yes I've had words!!

whats your website? why put stuff on like that if you dont want people to read it? stop writing up what your girlfriends doing would be the logical thing to do

if its your website. You could go into your root folder on ftp or some thing
and add a file called ".htaccess" and inside this file put (i belive only if its a apache webserver )

Deny from IPHERE

(i belive this works, It's what i use to do when i was into web disign and stuff but havnt done that in years now so could be wrong :) )

and if he can change his ip they dont nornally change far out of there subnet ID. so could block it like

so if his ip is say 81.34.24.5
You can block his whole range

Deny from 81.34.*.*

when words fail killing is the only resolve.

i thought ip's stayed with the router ( how they find pedo's ) sure you can type the ip into google and it will find the location ??

i belive to get a exact location you will have to be in contact with there ISP that issued that IP address. So if they find some one thats a pedo and get his ip. from that ip they can find out the Hostname that will show what ISP issued it and all the police have to do is phone up the isp with the IP address of the pedo and then the isp can link the time it was online to a username and then a address :)

Well thats what i think any way :-D

agreed ^.......mind you if you do manage to block him, he could just use tor and get on again. you will never be able to block him then......i know you shouldn have to but, consider not disclosing info on your lass....out of interest what web site is this and any pics or vids ?? :p

"tor" can be blocked ;) Alot of work is involded in blocking some one that knows how to use relays/proxies/tor and other such powers.
but it can be done. Alot of proxies send a diffrent HTTP header then a normal
Internet Exlopier/firefox HTTP header.. blocking them http headers would block about 70% of proxies. The hardest part would be blocking the level 5 anonymous proxies.

As they will hide your IP Address 100% also will clone a standard web broswers HTTP Headers so no one can tell unless then have software running on there web server to scan every ip address that connects to there website for open Proxie ports and then trys to connect to see if it really is a proxie.

( all in all. If he knows what his doing he will get on if he don't no nothing you can block him in a heart beat ;) )

If you know his IP, couldnt you write something into your page that says something like

if ip = <his ip>
then drop a cookie onto his machine that lets you know it's him every time he access

you can then check for the cookie on every page load and if its him send him to a f**k off page

if he does change his ip he'll still be blocked, unless he clears his cookies obviously
