Bonnet catch

  Mercedes AMG GLE 53
Ive never had the letter from renault. The wife has even though she dont own a Mk2 clio anymore. Anyway i had the 182 serviced at renault yesterday.
Guess what, no sign of any lubrication on the catch :( What a joke.

It get there information from the DVLA which isnt always correct it seems there only doing a few letters at a time not to get to many people going to renault at one time.
That is very poor if it hasn't been lubricated as every dealer was kept well imformed about this.

i got my letter through and just binned it. no way am i taking my car down renault so i can sit there for an hour whilst the car sits there. they'll then spray oil everywhere and dent the bonnet when then press down on it. thank you renault :dapprove:

just make sure the f*****s shut. its only the fact that the latch is seizing thru lack of lube and too much water ingress.
bonnet dont shut proper, catches on safety latch, safety latch is s**t and fails at speed

Do you have to take the car in to be looked at though? I am guessing that if somthing happens in the future then Renault wont want to know unless it's been in to a dealer.
I understand what is being said about doing the job at home, I'd rather spray my catch neatly and bypass farting about at Renault waiting piss taking hours for them just to spray some grease, but I'm more concerned about the bonnet flying up regardless of my maintenence and Renault wanting to do bugger all about it then because I didn't see them.

So, do you have to take it in to be covered?

LOL the old man just rang me and said that he recieved the letter concerning the bonnet catch today

what a coincidence!

took mine in last week, waste of time, they sprayed some lubricant on the catch and sent me on my way

the bloody bonnet cam open today tho, so much for the catch passing the safety test, so i'm gonna rape the dealer tomorrow and try and get a new bonnet as mine now has some dents in it

you think i'll get one, considering they put my life in danger so to speak?

Since the problem is just people not shutting the bonnet realy I don't think you'll have much come back on the dealers.

my bonnet wouldnt close properly, took me and hour to get it closed, and even then it wasnt closed properly.... it was like that before i took it to renault.... so surely after a safety check, the bonnet should close properly?

So you knew the bonnet didn't work and you did nothing? Surly you could have pointed it out not just it needs a quick look but it is failing already.

Best way to close these bonnets is to let them drop a good foot or two above the slam panel.

I don't trust Renault with my car, I'd rather just do it myself. I just WD40 it every now and then, and as above, make sure I give the bonnet a good foot or so drop.
