Bonnet Repair - DIY?

  Black-Gold 182
I've a dirty great stone chip in my bonnet that every quote I've had says that I'm going to have to have my WHOLE bonnet resprayed because of the colour of it - Black Gold. So instead of it being a £60 repair, I'm looking at the best part of £250. So, because of this I thought I'm gonna have a go at repairing it myself, and if it looks tosh, I haven't lost out because I'd have to have the whole thing resprayed anyway.

Any tips for blending Black Gold into the surrounding area? I'll probably be doing it from cans - yeah, not ideal, but I haven't got access to a spray booth.

Cheers

i had a smallish one on my bonnet! get some paint mixed up and touch it in with a cocktail stick! will look a lot better -

:eek:better than spending 200 notes + on a respray that they cant guarantee a perfect match

got pics of the damage mate?

get some pics up and ill guide from there

It's quite a hefty one - I'll sort some pics when I get home - am at work at the minute.

It's a right sod to get at because of the double skin - it's dented the surrounding area as well. Looks a right mess! I'm pretty sure it was a big stone on the motorway. either that, or the bugs around by me have started wearing crash-hats!

not a big dent - it's just pushed it in where the rock/stone/bug-in-crash-hat hit. It hasn't creased the metal, which is the important thing. The actual dent/chip site can be filled once I've taken it back to the metal. It's the painting part I'm a little worried about.

as I feared! Bugger!

Well, I think I'll try it anyway - I can't leave it as is cause it's going rusty.

Attached are a couple of pics (all be it badly taken ones as I did them on my phone).
