Brake lights, having to push hard.

  197
Now it's dark early I have noticed my brake lights don't come on unless I give the pedal quite a push. I like it so just a touch lights them up. Anyone know how I can adjust it or is it a trip to the stealers.

Most cars have a little plunger type switch at back of brake pedal that so when you press it opens and makes connection to make brake lights come on. these normally have a threaded section with locking nut to adjust it, i.e you move it further away so connection is made sooner, closer to make connection later.

Thanks for that, I will take a look. I think recognise that username from FiatForum, didn't you have the black Integrale? I saw it at Stanford when I had a fiat. If so it was possibly my all time favourite motor.

I still have my integrale, and yes I use same user name on all forums including FF so can't sell the car otherwise I'd be lost :D

Then it is my favourite motor, you might know me as Bozzy on the FF.

Yeah username rings a bell. Thanks for comments on my car, it is tucked up for winter now in the garage. Recently sold my Celica GT4 ST205 and bought a Clio Trophy as my daily hack, great little car, really enjoying it, reminds me of my old R5GTT's that I run & my Series 1 106 Rallye, must be a French thing.

I did mine today. There is indeed a plunger that just twists off. Its a ratchet sort of system so just pull it out and with the brake pedal pressed reinsert and it will be sorted

Just found this thread and also the guide. Great help.

I didn't take the switch out though. I just pressed the pedal down, got my skinny fingers on the plunger, pulled it out then released the brake pedal. The pedal took the swith to the required number of clicks.

I want to try a new switch anyway, as my ABS Serv and T/C lights come on sometimes.

Exactly how I did it. Practically limbo'd down on my back in the footwell and poked the plunger back in a bit.
