brake problem...

Only felt this yesterday, when the car is cold the brakes feel really grindy for the first minute or so then they are fine, they don't seem to have as much 'feel' any more either...

cars done 18.5k... new front pads then?

car does get driven but i am still on my four original tyres (swapped front to back) and they should last till 24k i reckon, so i don't thrash the nuts off it every day, should i be changing the pads now?

also do i have to get renault to do it or can i go somewhere else? likewise do i need renault brake pads or can i buy something differnet? just thought it may invalidate the warranty.

cheers

If you want dont bother with going to renault. Pads are about 38 quid from renault, but charge about 80 quid for fitting. You only need a very simple tool box to do it.

Could be the rust getting scraped off by the pads for the first mile or two? I get that every morning.

If you're tyres are going to last 24k I'd be surprised if you'd even 2/3 worn the pads down.

thats what i thought^^^^

at my 12k service i had 30% wear on rears and 40% on front i was told.

but i was driving down to hastings from the marsh last night and they felt really bad, not the usual feel in them... i dunno, i may have to pick a set up i suppose...

can i check the wear levels on them if i take the wheel off?

My guess is they will be very corroded on the inside face on the disc, i had to replace my discs at 24K miles even though there was lots of life left in them. For the cost of discs it was not worth skimming them.
Its easy to check by crawling underneath and having a butchers.

Oh ignore what they say when they service the car regarding wear because i doubt they have a clue, i replaced all my brakes before it went in and they still said they where 15% worn.

hmmm, would i get done over if i changed then form non renault items?

could they be spanked because i went round the ring 12 times a few months ago? could they be disentegrating?

i may have to get some of those pads which give off sparks! they are cool! :)

Using none standard disk will invalidate your warently on brakes but brakes arn't covered anyway as there deemed as fair wear and tear so there no problem there.

You won't have disintigrated the disk from track use probably just ssome dirt in the pads or the caliper sticking or you need to bleed the brakes.
What Renault tell you regards brake wear is usually quite accurate give or take 50%.

hahaha cheers fella ;) think i am going to get some fresh pads slapped on tomorrow (hopefully) and see what i think.

thansk for the help.

  182... again!
The disks go rusty especially after washing the car, but if it does it more than that getting them checked is obviously wise! With new pads or discs they will need bedding in so take it easy after. A good garage will warn you!!!
