Broadband minus a phone line...?

Basically wanting to transfer the BB from my mum's house to mine and the GF's. We don't currently have a phone line connected although there is one installed at the house. So...my question is this, seen as BB is going to cost say £20~ a month is there a telephone company out there whould simply connect our line (cheap) and provide us with a minimal line rental (say £5 per month) as we DO NOT want to receive or make calls from the line. It will be 100% BB access only?

Ideas and opinions welcome guys :)

Only if you find an LLU supplier.

Most are BT Wholesale based, so you need a phone line (£11 a month)

Was in kind of a similar situation.

Cant remember exactly who..... Nildram or Plusnet

Contacted me offerign me ADSL with my phone line rental etc all from them..... (they pay BT)

Worked out very cheap at only £23.99 a month for up to 8mb and unlimited downloads (fair usage policy)

But they pay all ur BT line rental etc.... u never see a bill from BT.

I thought you can just get a cable modem on its own from ntl? So you dont even need a phone line.

you can't have an LLU service without a phone line in the first place, so yes you need to pay BT line rental.

NTL is great when yuo don;t need phone line.

I'm wanting to move out into a new place as soon as I find somewhere else to live:rolleyes:

Odds are that If I choose a flat i'll have to go with a BT line (NLT don't do blocks of apartments as it's all BT/Sky:mad: ) but thanks to the posts on this thread:approve: , i've done a bit of checking around and found that Plusnet give you Line Rental and BB for around £20-25 a month. Only £2-7 more than I pay with NTL at the moment.

Seems a pretty good deal.

LLU is local loophold unbundling.

basically providers other than bt putting there equipment in the exchange.

you need a bt line as always and yes you need to pay line rental on it. but most bb providers include wlr in the price of the bb service.

yeah the point of LLU is for the provider to use there own equipment/lines. but it is still a bt line for last mile or so;)

You don't "need" to pay BT line rental with LLU in all cases.

Most LLU ISP's only deal with the Data aspect of the line, meaning you are still required to pay for the line rental, but some LLU suppliers, Bulldog the most obvious example, supply both Data and Voice in one package.

Granted you still pay line rental to Bulldog, rather than BT, but it's not true to say BT line rental is always required.

lol @ not trusting ntl and then saying you would prefer to use plusnet.

that is like saying that you don't want to be anally raped with a spoon, you would rather be raped with a whisk.
