Budget HD Video Recording

mas

Car  MK7 GTD & Mini GP
Im a keen photographer.

But wanting to get more in to the Video side of things at the minute.

Does anyone else do something similar? Any tips on what gear to get if im just starting out?

Budget of say 400-500, dont mind buying second hand from the likes of ebay etc.. want interchangable lenses and things like that.

An example of stuff I would like to do...

You're probably not going to get much for £400-500, especially if you want interchangable lenses too. You also need much larger memory cards if you go down DSLR route. I'm not upto speed on HD camcorders, but you probably can only stick fisheye style lenses on. To get the effects that guy has, it's just software.

d90. Dunno if it hd though, plus you'll need lenses.
d300s
5d mk2

What system have you already bought into?

^ Bodies only are £1k and £1500 for those 2 I think. I'd recommend spending a bit more for the 550d, I've just got one and came from a 5d and is awesome piece of kit. Stick any small prime on it like the 50mm 1.8 and a decent 16gb card and it'll be £700

It doesnt have to be amazing, top of the range cameras... just after something that will get me going, and if I like it and enjoy it, I will be able to invest more money in to it.

5D Mk2 > 550D by miles. Looking to upgrade from my 500d to either a 7d or a 5d Mk2. Shame the 5d doesnt have the same features of the 7 tbh.

Amazing kit, but just out of my price range for a kind of 'test the water' project :(

Of course the 5D II is better than the 550d it's not even the same league, but it's 3 times the cost of his budget without any lenses! So add a few lenses and accessories and you're pushing £2000.

Looking at a Canon HV30? Is it any good, seems to get very positive reviews on the forums and is relatively cheap too.

Can this interchange lenses?

Cheers Andy. Yeh that slug video is a strange one. It's a good video to show how good the 550d is in low light, it was taken at 9:45pm in the entrance to a forest!

That's an annoying problem with the pixel, why just the video though? Have you got any videos taken on the 5D anywhere?

I've only got family video really. I have not delved into it properly at all, it is just a bonus feature to have.

I'll upload a couple for you.

I think the pixel only shows in the video as the sensor automatically maps out the hot pixels in photos. Images are much higher res too so it is easy to miss it if it is there.

Some of the videos... just SOC. You will have to click through the links to view HD on YT.

Low light video - (I was at a cycling event not a gay concert) ;)
