My Temp gauge bulb decided to pack in today... Are they hard to replace? and little tricks tips to get the dash off?

Also Is it worth replacing the rest while im at it or should I not disturb them!

Final Also!...

Im thinking of taking my dodgy airbag bulb out as its always on at the moment.. If I take it to an m.o.t centre will they notice?

Ive had it checked four times by four differnet garages - they all say they cant find anything wrong with it - the diagnostic comes up clean - Ive spent nearly £150 just for them to plug stuff into it and tell me theres nothing wrong!

I dont know what else to do now...

There obviously is something wrong cos otherwise the light wouldnt be on even its just the light thats faulty (could be a short, you havent had some ICE put in or owt that might have gone near the wiring loom feeding the dash ? Could just be a wire shorting to earth.). Sounds like they just ran the diagnostic computer and called it a day, robbing gits. If you havent already got a report then get some paperwork from them to say that the airbag is okay and take it to the mot station with the car.

No ice, never messed with any of the cabling - Its really annoying though!

I heard I could wire a resistor or something inbetween the airbag wires? then the light goes off as normal when you start the car I heard..!

pull the bulb out when the dash is off!!! (i didnt say that obviously!) if the agarge says its safe, no worrys!up to you how much you trust them! only one way to find out, have a crash and see if it works! lol!

quick tip, when you take the dials out, there are 2 screws at the bottom as well as the top which in my opinion dont need to be there, bloddy fiddley to do so dont bother!

When i changed mine, i changed all the main bulbs and cleaned the terminals to ensure it all went ok! I would suggest doing them all as the new ones will shine brighter than the old. I didnt do the ones on the oil gauges using the usual if it aint broke, dont fix it idea and they arent as bright as the others!

I wouldnt do anything like that. If you set the airbag off youll be spending some coin on a new one.

If it was me Id be down the main dealers and telling them that they need to fix it. if they say that they cant find owt then ask why the sodding lights on if they say they dont know then dont pay cos they didnt check it properly. The buld isnt lighting itself.

Is up to you though, you could take out the bulb and trust the garage BUT if they cant find out why the light is on...you think they checked the Airbag properly? And as Mr16 Valver says only way youll know is to have a crash and I wouldnt risk it.

Oh and if you do go in make sure you only pay if they find the fault. Most garages say you have to pay for diagnosis time even if they do not fix the fault for you which is okay, it stops people getiing them to find stuff and then fixing it themselves, but they are obliged to find the fault because that is what you asked for in return for your money.

They can charge you for a wild goose chase (ie there was nothing wrong you imagined it) but a fault clearly exists sin this case because the light is on so if they dont find it then they have not completed their side of the deal.

The way I see it is they sold valvers for years without an airbag - the car is the same as the airbagless valvers so Im really not bothered about if its there or not to be honest! If it works it works if it doesnt it doesnt but i dont fancy paying a fortune to get it ripped out, or to get it repaired!

as long as it passes the m.o.t I dont care!
