Only got budget of circa £450.

Wouldi be better off buying a barebones system and adding a few bits and peices or doing the whole lot myself?

Wouldn't need monitor/keyboard etc. Just the PC.

Anyone got any recomendations at all?

coolio ta, do the components come with the various cables or will i need to get soem seperately to connect it all together?

  Ultra 197 ex 172 Cup
also try novatech, they sell some quite good barebone systems, or motherboard, cpu & memory bundles,

^^^ make sure your case comes with a psu, as some don't now a days

yeah cheers^^^

The PC would only be used for internet and some old skool games like Max Payne 2.

I would like to be able to play something like the new spore game i tihkn it is called and simcity and the new command and conquer one. Nothing majorly graphic intense. Would the spec be ok for the casual gamer?

I have had my current PC since about 2001 and i have only added a graphics card in 2002 and 1 gig of ram last year. So i tihkn any new PC i make or buy will be a massive improvement.

  Fiesta ST
its as good as spec as your gonna get for your budget. It will run all the games u need it to no problem and nearly all the latest ones.

The E6300 can be over clocked no problems aswell.

Ok peopel, i rekcon i may well be biting the bullet and ordering the parts.

Just got fuckedoff wit hthe gheyness of my current PC. It totally sucks tbh.

Roy Munso called his 'the beast2' when he built his a while back.

Mine is gonig ot be called 'the sloth'!! ;) lol

So if i buy all i need as highlighted above, i will have all i need to put it together? yes or no?

Since i am still having trouble with my netgear wireless router via the usb thing. should i get a wireless card to put in the back of it? Save wit the s**t USB as i have heard people have many problems connecting with the USB.

Should i also stick with XP with this system? I don't want to slow it down with vista unnecessarily.

Can someone who has the PC experience of putting in soem ram and a graphics card build one?

Please remember rasclart and Roymunson call me the 'pc leper' lol :)

It should be easy to do - just like lego! Look on the internet for guides and print them out just incase.

Add CPU to mobo add HS&Fan (plug in CPU fan to CPU fan power on mobo).

Add memory to board.

Screw board into case using the correct mountings and back plate.

Screw PSU into place.

Plug in 2 x power connectors into board.

Slot in graphics card. plug in power lead for graphics card.

Plug in the case wires into the correct pins on the mobo.

Add drives to case

Plug in power to drives and use your sata/ide cables plug into mobo and drives.

Plug in case fans into mobo.

Power on :)

Also use Cat5 for your router? if not wireless.

Stick with XP for now is my personal opinion but thats up to you. Or dual boot vista and xp.

a cable - plugs from your PC to a modem/router etc.

ah i see. my current pc doesn't have ethernet so i couldn't use it on my netgear router.

So i guess the new PC i build will do?

ok so here is the spec:

pcrig.gif

as per longy suggestions. Seems it should be quite good! especially compared to my current pc. lol :)

gone slightly over budget to circa £500... but ah well.

  Fiesta ST
yeah not bad - leaves room also to upgrade bits when u can

eg: better gfx card, overclock CPU, get faster Ram etc in your own time.

This will run all games currently.

ok.... been playing about a bit with different specs.... decided on AMD due to the cost implication is quite a bit of difference.

Firstly, i am a noob with PC's. Are these products an ok choice? I tihkn they will all plug together... but advice needed if they are appropriate. Looking at the MOBO it says it is a microaatx. i presume thta is a compact mobo?

Should i be looking at a larger mobo?

Also the memory. THere was no kingston in stock, so is this memory ok?

advice please!!!!!! :)

Ok, tweaked my spec a bit from the above as i accidently put in a mini atx...

pcrig3.gif

sitting at £549 including VAT for this rig... bumped up quite a bit by the uber grpahics card. Raclart recommended pushing a bit more for thta so what do you guys reckon???

the above rpices are without VAT. that equates to circa £460ish iirc.

bump for any geeks opinions. i reckon this is the winner tbh. spunking far too much no the graphics card, but i was persuaded by rasclart!

I'd have more memory than just 512MB if it was me, especially if your looking at running decent newish games etc.

I would say minimum you want is 1GB, or if you can stretch to it a 2GB matched pair. You would not believe the difference it'll make

  Clio 1.4 16v
Yeah you are getting 1Gb, they are not a matched pair however, get a dual channel kit instead of two single sticks, it won't really alter the price

Its the mobo that does the dual channeling as long as its the same memory in each channel.

the spec look ok longy then? does my mobo do this dual channeling thingy?

True, but by getting a matched pair, they have almost certainly come from the same batch, instead of getting two completely different ones

Also getting a 1GB stick will give you more room / scope should you want to upgrade.

You really notice the difference with a matched pair, and certainly with 2GB. Would be a shame for high spec games to run like a dog due to lack of memory!

hmmm good call, i may well just get 1 stick of 1gb for now then.

Looks good to me bud, (for a none intel based system ;) ) - easily run everything you need it. You can always upgrade the mobo and CPU in the future.

  Revels Mum & Sister
Get on and order it you ghey

If you are planning to upgrade the Memory to 2GB anytime soon then stick with a 1GB stick. If not then 2 sticks running dual channel will do fine

As for OCZ and Corsair, there isnt a difference between then. We use OCZ on the mid range builds at work for clients. We have used probably about 100 sticks over the past 4 months and had one fail which was down to the customer not the product.

But saying that we have not had any problems with the Corsair. But the OCZ isnt the bottom bottom, its the next step up.
