Burn to a dvd

I have a film thats 2hours 40mins and i want to burn it to a dvd. Only problem is its 24mins over the limit i can put on it.

Is there a way to get it all onto the disc without loosing quality?

Decent DVD software should compress it enough for you to fit it on a disc. I presume you're converting/burning into DVD, rather than just burning an avi or some such onto disc?
