Caliper seized on? That most certainly would cause a burning smell as your pads get trashed.

You been pulling to one side slightly?

best to phone Renault as i know there was a dodgy batch of flux capacitors give them your VIN and they will be able to tell you if you have one of the bad ones

^^^^ lol. are you sure its not your clutch? it might be slipping at high rev's, this means the clutch cover (the part with the pressure springs) is worn. you can either; 1. get ne clutch, 2. hammer the springs so create more pressure.

but it might not be the clutch lol.

doesnt the flux start a 88mph? are you sure you havent got the date typed in wrong? lol

I had exactly the same thing on my mk2 ph1 1.4s, really stunk and made quite a bit of smoke, got it sorted out though and now got a new one sorted, plus the garage found a fraid throttle cable, could have snapped at any time...:S

its defo the flux capacitor matey. just ring renault this is a known fault. tell them that a mechanic has informed you of the problems with their flux capacitors and they will replace it for you straight away.

the same happend to mine i spoke to a guy at renault and he said its defo the flux capacitor i thought it would be a big job to fix but only took them a day and was real cheap to fix.
call you local garage ask them about it they will put it right.

well i think he shud check his flux capacitor first as this is a known prob with clios. as danny said his went at 8000 miles and when my mat ehad his replaced the local renault dealer told him that they had replaced 5 that week! wen u ring renaults mate if they say they are nto sure what it is which they always do then ask them about the flux capacitor, once they know that you know what is going on they dnt tend 2 bullshit you anymore. hope this helps

  ST on the way...
The burning smell is probably the smell of a 1.2 doing 80mph on the motorway.....

^^^^ cant see why....my 1.2 dosnt smell just cause im doing 80, the fact that its only at 4krmp, is not really pushing the engine is it....i still say clutch...

i think you def need to get it up to 88. 90 just in case the speedo is a bit out, if nothing noticable happens then its def a faulty flux capacitor.

yeh what ben said. you could always go to halfords and ask for a tub of re-flux for a clio 1.2 flux capacitor? although im not sure if they do it for the smaller engine clios.

they do do it, but its hard to get hold of, you'll be lucky if halfords keep it to be honest, but worth askin just in case. cheaper than totally replacing

well to be honest, to re-flux....you would need a re-flux kit. it comes with a 1200 uF 50V electrolitic capacitor, a switch, a 1M-ohm potentiometer, a 25-ohm rheostat, charging switch (most of the time this is the faulty part) and a piezoelectric transducer.

you will also need a soldering iron.

if halfords dont have the kit, i sell them. pm me for details. lol.

I had a similar smell with mine, it turned out to be the altenator.

The smell was coming from the heating vents, try to see if you notice the smell around your altenator when the engine is running.
