Buying a 172

Hi I'm new to the clio forum, currently own a seat ibiza pd130, going to Scotland at weekend to get my first 172. Anything I should be looking out for on inspection? Any common problems etc? Thanks :) Jonny

Welcome fella. Have a look in Clio discussion for the buyers guide.

Main thing is whether the belts have been done at garage that know what they are doing.

Generally a £500-£600 job but vital every 5 years or 72k.

Then just your normal checks on a used car.

Good luck and get some pics up when you get it.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Hello and welcome mate. Just fancying a change from the Ibiza? Heard they're rapid with a remap!!

Cheers guys, yeah mine is remapped 170bhp, 290 foot pounds. But it's just got boring if I'm honest. Diesels just done give you the wow factor. I want something fun to drive/something I can rev! :)

Picked the car up :D it's mint. Needs a new gear linkage I think the bar between the gear stick and the box wobbles around. Wen you set of quick is knocks from underneath the gear stick. Other than that tho I'm happy 39 mpg on the way to work, much more than expected!

It sounds like a worn mount to me

Yeah mate. I have noticed the bar between the gearsick and the box is wobbling about but I don't think it would be that, it's quite a loud noise but only if I set off quick

Stick a thread in the faults etc , there are a lot more people that may have had this prob
could be upper gearbox mount , have you had the engine mounts checked there might be a lot of movement when you stick your foot down ?
