buying a car without a logbook - is it ok?

just been to view a car tonight and want to buy it.... have left a deposit on it. however, the logbook is with the DVLA as the car has had a personal plate taken off it.

Do I need to wait for the owner to have the logbook before I can collect it? I have no patience so really want the car asap.

what do you reckon?

he can't actually sell the car without the log book as you have no proof he/she owns it :S Also the DVLA specify you must not sell/scrap/export the car whilst the private plate is being taken off. I'd wait IMO.

Just took plate off wifes car, only takes 4-5 days.

But V5 takes about 10!!!!!!!!!

Wait!!!!!!!!!!

he should still have half of the V5 though, to prove he owns it.

only 1 half of it gets sent away to the DVLA

I still havent got the V5 through from the DVLA yet and its been a month since I bought my new car from a member on here. It was sent off the day by the member I got it from and ive still got the receipt. Should I chase them up yet?

I would, should only take approx two weeks, but I guess the recent letter bomb would have slowed the DVLA down.

If I were buying I'd wait. It's to risky!

On saying that though I sold my trophy without the log book. I just showed the guy proof of my address and he was happy enough! I just forwarded it on when it arrived.
