Cage?

  Clio 172
Evening, I know about the guy on eBay who does the cages but he's based in Norfolk, just wondering if there's anywhere around the East Midlands that makes them?

Cheers

  Lotus Elise
Agreed. It's a custom cages cage that I've got in my car and the fit was nigh on perfect tbh.

Haha that ones mental!

I just want the the bit that goes round the pillars then an X with 2 separate bars for harnesses.

Obviously custom cages are going to be a lot more expensive, what sort of price roughly?

So do you only want a rear cage then? Look at the options available from custom cages mate. They offer various clubman kits. Custom cages can profile all the additional tubes for you as well. The basic cl4 kit comes in at about £500 I think, then you need someone that can fit it and weld it in for you.

Just had a look, there £480 for the cage and £949 cage + fitting! Long way from £150 off that guy on eBay lol

It's all down to what your comfortable with mate. I wouldn't want to put any faith in a £150 roll cage tbh. You may as well drive on track without wearing a seatbelt imo.

What price do you put on something that could potentially save your life?

I cannot understand the logic behind buying a cheap (yes, I've seen them!) eBay cage over a proper tried and tested cage. Especially if you're mounting harnesses on there!

Where are you located? Far from Bristol?

I'm sure the quality is brilliant its just means I'm going to have to save for a bit longer to get one!

Keep an eye out for a secondhand safety devices rear cage. Add some harness bars, jobs a good'un.

That's looking like what I'm going to have to do. Have to get my rs tuner or get my dash flocked 1st then :)

What material is it?

  Lotus Elise
Not by me mate! I'm glad you've said that cause ill only be doing the odd track day too

Going by the majority I've seen its the mounting to the car where the quality issues are. 3 M8 bolts and pissy little washers usually.

  Clio 172
Yeah obviously that's a major issue. Wish I was a master fabricator so I could make one myself lol

It's steel don't know what grade but its not bad atall for the money the floor mountings are ideal It's m10 holes... I drilled 10mm holes " the only part not included that I made were some brackets for the underside of the car" I used an oxyacetylene torch and cut 4 brackets out of 5mm thick steel to mount to the bottom of the car to spread the load of the cage " didn't have to but I chose too " I covered the holes in tiger seal and used m10 bolts and ni lock nuts with a washer unsure on washer size as was just in a box of crap in the workshop ...... Tbh I like it it's decent and well worth the 168 delivered ...... Like I said I don't compete or anything so for me it's perfect

  Clio 172
Think it's sounding good enough for me, does it rattle at all? And did it take long to get delivered?

  Clio 172 phase 1
Sorry just seen Sams post ... The mounting issue wasn't too bad the foot plates were angled and sat nice and flush really was impressed and the holes are m10 so a little wider but yeh the idea of this one was big washers and a pissy nut that's why I decided to make under car plates for the money though I'd say good value for money good product :)

  Clio 172 phase 1
It was here within a week which was awsome 7-10 days he said it would take was here in 5 ..... No rattles atall I used tigerseal in the holes to eliminate water n all that really goodbye I won't be disappointed needs 2 people to fit it though lol was a bit of a pain to get in the car but once uve sussed it it's easy

  Clio 172
Sound, ill be spraying mine before I fit it anyway but it's looking like ill be ordering one of these badboys later :)

I've got the rear cross and I've painted it mg trophy blue with a pearl over the top looks nice fitted :)

Blimey, sounds cheap.
the cage in my old escort was made in T45 and cost £3k.

i really wouldn't rush in to buying a £150 cage.
