Cam Belt / Aux Belt coming up

My local garage confirmed my Cam and Aux belt needs doing now, which is fine.

They stated Renault charge around 800 - 1,000, and most garages will charge around 600.

They will do both belts including labour for 400.00, I'm happy with that, getting it booked in over the next month.

Do you notice anything before / after the belt needs doing?

depends how bad it damages your engine

coule be2k plus depends if u need new engine

Depends how much labour costs you and how many valves are hit you might get away with free labour and a few quid in parts but realistically it won't be cheap as its hea off and fix the valves which are damaged then new head gasget and pout it all back together.

So from an average garage (non-renault) how much roughly would I be looking at for a belt change and 48k service together?

when the cam belt is due, it would be silly not to get the aux belt changed.
the cam/aux belt change and service, your looking at between 500-600 depending on where you go.

being as the aux has to come of to do the cambelt then anyway not chnaging one is stupid

The 36k service on my car wasn't done by a Renault garage... do you think they'll still have a record of what was done?

If you have a 172 cup, its £290 for a cambelt change at Rentech in Portsmouth do the major service yourself, its only gearbox/engine oil & filters, etc

I have a couple of quotes and for a camblet and aux belt its pretty much £600.

Shame Portsmouth is the arse end of no-where.

Hang on, you have a cup, £400 isnt cheap at all for a cup lol! We are also £290, thats genuine parts, fitted, VAT etc.

take my advice,
NEVER neglect to change ur timing belt when it needs,
mine was due at 72k, 4k later jst before i got it done,
it snapped whilst i was driving,

i was lucking and only need 4 new valves, and a new cambelt and gaskets,

tho i will say, f**k payin that much just to have the belt changed,

im payin 100 for mine to be fixed after snapping, and that includes the cam belt, water pump, 4 new valves, headgasket and headbolts,

a cam belts only £50 at trade price, just get ur hands dirty,
doing my own labours saving me like £400

I got mine done by a cam belt specialist near me for £270 (mates rates). Should be £300 to anyone else and that's a normal 172 with climate....

Most folks on here, myself included, take that with a pinch (bucket) of salt.

Being French, i've always got mine done early.

I thought it was 5 years or 72,000 miles? I'm getting mine done next week. Mine's on 66k.

Thats a great price !!! Mines going in on friday an costing me £400 which i thought was a gd price lol ,, Mines being done through renault though so i hope your garage have the correct tools as apparently there are some specialist tools required do change the belt on the 172 engine....

Just been getting quotes for getting the cam/aux belt done on my 182, amazing how the price varies!

Went to 2 Renault garages and got £695 and £473! Sure I got a 10% card for Arnold Clark lying around somewhere as well...
