Birchdown/BTM/Rentec/or sideways danny. Your car will be in safe hands 100% that way ;)

172/182 (with aircon)
cambelt kit and aux belt kit (i refuse to fit just an aux belt! reusing your existing aux tensioner and idler is not sensible)

Genuine Renault parts £475inc vat
Non Gen £425inc vat

Thats what Fred at BTM was posting at the start of 2010 might be sligthly higher/lower now though so you will have to give him a call but he is apparently one of the best/the best avaiable for the 172/182 market.

are you being serious about the price for none genuine parts

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Couple of garages in Leeds have good reputations mate if you want something closer to home. RS Murray and Queens Service Station I think it's called.

None genuine parts make no difference what so ever IMO providing there of the same grade and come from a decent company and not euro carparts

and £425 all in inc VAT for a specialist job is a very good price considering the work that goes into the change

and you get 12months warranty from me, other specialists offer the same too

BTM and Birchdown are both the same price BTW

a break down of what you get for £425

new cambelt kit - idlers tensioner and a belt
new aux kit - tensioner, idler and a belt
labour - 5hrs

but alas the price IS going up by £30 at the end of the month

Sorry for a bit of a hijack ;

Can the idler pulley get noisy /whiney after a while ? Or even stall/break ? When they did the cambelt on mine i think they did'nt do the idler, they just threw on a new aux belt only...:(

Is it a small/affordable job to "correct" this; do JUST the full aux-kit all over ? (i'm also thinking a Cup does'nt have the tensioner because the alternator tensions the belt)

Possible ?

Don't forget the dephaser pulley!

Had a longish discussion with Andy from birchdown about this - it's not neccesary at all he told me, and that they only ever replace them if they sound knackered at the time.

Long and short he said if you are flush then get it done, but it's not a necessity if the car has been maintained.

PMSL. Euro car parts don't make parts. They only sell parts.

And, you get what you pay for. They'll sell all the OE parts, without the Renault, Citroen similar stamp on..

You think thats expensive, you should see the prices Renault charge for a Meg 225 !
I'll beat that, see what they charge for a V6, thats if the dealer even knows it exists! £1500 was about average for my local dealers, and between them they had 0hrs experience working on them.

Yep a grand was their first quote for the 225 so I can see their calculations going on the number of cylinders, lol ! But having said that I managed to get them to do a 72k service, Cam and aux belts done for less than £700 ! :)

I know there a retailer and not a manufacturer but in simple terms 80% of what they sell tends to be s**t with there name on it
Unipart seem to retail much better kits and parts

and you do get what you pay for but Main dealers tend to massivly mark up there parts

Did nobody ask Reno for discount?

They quoted me something daft at first and i told them that was too much and id get it done elsewhere. They called back shortly later and literally nabbled a couple of hundred off the price
