Cambelt Advice

Hi,

I have a N reg RSi just hit 51k and the garage said its about time to geta new cambelt fitted.

Anyone have a rough price guide? and anyone recommend someone in the Northampton area to fit it.

Well,

I called a few garages and found one near where I work in Southam Warwickshire the whole kit new rollers and pre tensioners etc £256.27 inc VAT so I think thats a good price considing renault quoted £500 ish.

TBH I would have thought you could get it done cheaper than that. I don't know how much the kit (belt, tensioners etc) is on an RSi but I can't imagine it being so much as to cost that much - but I'm not totally sure about the RSi engine. Probably best to see what some other RSi owners have been quoted.

I've only been to one garage in Northampton which was J&S Autos. Don't go there they will metaphorically get you in, tell you to get ure trousers down then shaft u up the ass! But a cambelt kit is circa £50 isn't it? on an RSI it isn't *that* labour intensive lots of space at least, compared to a 16v lol but probably looking at around £150-£200 I would have thought? You might also be better off buying the cam-belt online, that way they won't shaft u for parts either...

well the kit is £80, and the labour is £30 per hour and its a 4 hour job. Thats the best deal I have found yet.... I dont know many garages that work for under £30 an hour but I know a hell of a lot that work for far more!
