Cambelt and auxillary belt price?

Hi guys,
New to the forum after recently purchasing a 172 cup, the car is on a 53 plate and has only 27k on the clock, i know the cambelt needs changing after 70k or 5 years, i know my clio only has low miles but im gonna get it done to be on the safe side, i have just been quoted £500 from my local renault dealer for a cambelt change and auxillary belt change, which i think is a bit steep, if anyone knows where to get these parts cheap or could recommend a renault specialist i would be more than grateful, i live in cleveland north east uk

Many thanks
Dean

£500 would be cheap for a non-cup but apparently the job is a doddle on a 172 cup due to there not being any aircon gubbings in the way. I think and this is a big think, but I think you can get it done for half that from an independant.

It's allegedly 72k miles or 5 years so you are both due on the age side of things but I got mine done at 32k.

^^^ Im afraid thats wrong-

It is 5 Years or 72k whatever comes first-
(Thats cambelt 72k 5 years & auxillary belt 3 years + 36)

£500 isnt bad for Renault dealer- Although IIRC its around £300 at a specialist because you dont have air con-

He will still need his aux belts and cambelt done though unless he has already had them done if its a 53 plate because its over 5 years i imagine.

So £500 is not to bad? im hopefully gonna try source the parts myself and just get them to fit them, is anyone on here part of renault who could get some good discount? ;)

Its unlikely a Renault garage will do that-

iv just bought a cambelt kit from euro carparts for £90, and the aux belt was just over a tenna irc. so thats £100, then a bit of labour ontop of that if you go to a normal garage

£500 is quite good for a Renault dealer IMO, I was lucky and managed to get both kits done on my non cup 172 for £550. Oh and don't bother trying to source cheap parts, not worth it on something so important. Make sure you buy genuine Renault stuff. There's also a good chance if they don't use genuine Renault tools when changing it your timing will be off.

Yeah what i ment by cheap parts is genuine renault parts but at a trade discount, i thought someone on here might work for renault who maybe be able to get these parts, if not ill try to haggle the £500 price down again

Just a word of advice - there is a lot more to doing a cambelt on these cars than just slinging a belt around some pulleys!

K-tec sell them a bit cheaper than Renault IIRC, also if you pay up you'll see the traders section, NW performance seem to be selling the genuine stuff cheaper aswell.

How much generally are the parts, i know a cambelt kit is about £150, how much for the auxaillary belt? is the auxillary belt just a belt or is it a kit?

Many thanks

You can have just the belts changed for both, but then you run the risk of pulleys going, which can mean new engine time just the same as a belt snapping.

Ok 172 Cup you will need:

1)
- Gates full cambelt kit (Manufacturer of the Renault Kits - also includes cam seal plugs which the Renault kit does not)
OR
- Renault Original full cambelt kit

(Both include cam belt & pulleys etc etc)

2)
- Aux belt only.

It depends who's doing it.... can't remember the book time figure without looking it up, but usually about 3-3.5 hours; its still not the cheapest mind, buts its ok for a main dealer, for example our rate is £280.00

So £280 plus kit should come to around £450, i got quoted £498 so its not that far off, think im gonna buy original renault parts from a dealer off here then get reanult to fit them, when i first got the quote they said it would be £650!! but they said they can do it for £498 because of the age of the car

No £280 is with all parts & labour lol!

As I said, 3 - 3.5 hrs in the real world - little more book time for Renault.

I'd be surprised if they bring the price down much on that quote you have.

Does anyone know of any tuners in the cleveland area which is north east uk? i used to work in leeds and i know there is a tuning specialist there which i think is called queen service station, any help would be much appreciated

What are the cam cap seals? there included in the gates cam belt kit but not in the renault kit, are these needed?

Thanks in advance
