Cambelt/Aux belt Advice

  172 Ph2, Mk1 MX5 1.8
Ok bought my 172 a few weeks back now and was satisfied when I bought it that the Cambelt/Aux belt and all associated parts had been changed, with reciepts to prove back in January '09. Fine I thought wont need doing for a good while yet.

However looking through the receipts in my folder of history it appears that the cambelt was changed along with a full cambelt 'kit' BUT I can only find evidence of the Aux belt being changed @ £12.25, it does NOT state 'kit' anywhere.

So obviously I'm concerned that my Aux belt pullies etc are not up to standard.
Is there any way to check their condition ? They may have just been checked and found to be ok I suppose. Would it be ok to leave for now ?

Thanks for any advice folks, partic Fred ;)

Simon.

IIRC those boys are ex Renault techs, try calling them and see if they can have a look back through their invoices to double check?

Good plan will give them a bell tomorrow, my guess is they wont remember tho.

Will exhaust that option first tho, Cheers :)

Ok just phoned the guys @ Renault Autocare up and they say it wont have had the kit fitted if its not stated. So it looks like I'm still on the original Aux Pullies etc.

What's the best course of action from here ? There is nothing that I can tell to indicate they are shagged, but I'm no expert.

Well I've had a listen and there is a slight and I mean slight whine from under then bonnet, it could be anything and nothing really tho.

Can I check my pullies tensioners in anyway ?

you can reach under and grab the lower idler and check for play in it, that's all you can do without going in depth

Sorry for thread hijack. My belts were done in Nov 2007 so am I right in thinking the aux belt will need doing again by Nov 2010 (done about 22k since).

Fred, I'll bring the car over for you to take a look if that's ok, sometime after your holiday mate. Have a good 'un.

I had the exact same problem as you Si, belt had been changed twice but no mention of kit. I had a slight whine as well and that turned out to be the idler pulley.

Sounds about right yeh, was it an easy fix ?

Quick one Fred, does the tensioner spring need changing, i assume over time that must loose its springy-ness.
I had the issue of not being able to undo the top spring male torx so left that and just replaced the metal/roller it attaches too.
I am wondering if its easier to remove the top aux bracket alltogether as i will be changing my inlets next week.
