Cambelt help

  172cup
Driving earlier and cambelt went. :(

So need to take the head off and check the damage is there any specific way to take it off or is it just unbolt and off?

Taking it to a local guy to sort it, if the damage isnt that bad. ( its only a 1.2 8v so don't worry )
If the damage is bad might get a new engine will a 1.6 engine n box be plug n play?
Or will it need the ecu etc...

Any help would be great.

Seems to be a few too many timing belt failures at the minute.

Timing belt and other ancils/manifolds off then just unbolt the beggar

Honestly, don't - it will cost you more money in the long run than repairing... engine hacks seem like a good, simple idea but they can be troublesome as you always end up needing wiring, brackets, engines, ecm's decoding etc.

Nope, not for taking them out... just unscrew em and rip the head off. Putting them back in you start from the inner and work out in a clockwise, circular motion:

EXHAUST
8 - 4 - 1 - 5 - 9
7 - 3 - 2 - 6 - 10
INLET

If you don't already own one, a Haynes manual will be a great help

The Haynes manual also tells you that to remove a wheel the battery leads should first be removed. Honestly, just remove the bolts... it won't warp the head

Ace, and how did you find doing the job? Refitting and retiming is simple as the crank locks via the flywheel with a 7mm drill bit (If you don't have the correct lock pin of course). Just watch out for the timing marks on the D7F Cam pulley as from memory (It's been a while since i've touched a DIET engine) there's two marks on it of which both can be mistaken as timing marks.

car should be back up and running tonight, we have done the cambelt our selfs, guy dropped of the head yesterday all new valves etc just need to set up the tappets anyone know what they should be,
I found this but its for a 1.2 8v 90-98 not 01

Valve clearance inlet 0.10mm cold
Valve clearance exhaust 0.20mm cold

I need to invest in a hayens manual
