cambelt kit and AUX belt



  clio 172 phase 1
Hi does anyone no if i need to change the Tensioner also when changing the AUX belt??

If i dont what could happen?

Car is a clio 172 PH1

Yes you should change it if any doubt about its condition, if you dont then the tensioner could fail, worst case being the aux belt will then wrap around the bottom pulley, dislodge the cambelt, and result in a set of bent valves and mashed guides, or if you are really unlucky even take the heads off the valves (if you are at high enough rpm when it happens) and knacker the pistons too.

The amount of damage that can be done is pretty massive TBH, well worth changing!

If your planning to do this yourself and you dont know if the tensioner should be changed, then i see this going south very quickly!! The RS engine needs a bunch of tools to get the timing correct and is normally advised to be done by a renault specialist... The cam belt and aux belts come in kits, which are much cheaper to buy and come with all the required tensioners.
