its advice am after, so i can say the good people at cliosport said it could be this!!.. but whew, aint i wrong.. he may well of the done the cambelt correct, the car runs as it should, just lacking power.. he also had the inlet manifold off ect... its ideas i was after, not childish remarks.

if it's down on power, the timing has definitely been set wrong. There is a sticky thread at the top of this section about why you should always use someone experienced with these engines. Have a good read. If your man thinks it could be a "tooth" out then he hasn't understood how the timing on an F4R is done

the arguement of "everyone has to start somewhere" has one answer, being taught how to do it by someone experienced.

Did you see the borrowed tools? Getting it a "tooth out" is not really possible with the tools. Only without them...

I'd give him a copy of the manual, I can send it you if you PM me your e-mail address.

  172 Race Car
My old car was 40bhp down on standard after a cambelt change, it can make a huge difference. I really can belive people can get these so wrong. they are not mind bendingly difficult if you done cambelts on cars built within the last 15 years.

If you mechanic only works on old CVH escorts and Cavalier 8valves then your in trouble

Not at all, you've had good advice in both threads, the advice is most mechanics don't do a proper job when faced with a tricky job that is the F4R. There's no miracle answer, your mechanic just needs to do the job right, if he can't do the job right then take it to a mechanic that knows what he's doing. He has got the timing wrong because he doesn't know the correct procedure.

lol

I think he's more likely put the locking pin in the wrong hole. There's often a balancing drilling quite close to the hole for the lock pin. Fixed loads that have been done that way
