I took my car in for it's first service since i purchased it. The mechanic said it was all ok except for the fact that the cambelt cover wasn't even bolted on and had been rattling around and wearing down on the belt, he wasn't sure it if it had always been like that or wasn't bolted on properly when it was done..
It has worn quite a bit. The wear around the bolt hole is about 4 or 5mm.
The mechanic said the belt didn't really look worn and wasn't fraying, but said it was better to be safe than sorry and get a new belt done...
So now i need a new cover and a new belt. The car has only done 65000 miles. It had all the belts done at 36000 miles after 6 years. It wasn't due another change for 2 years
My car still has a squeak from the engine, but the mechanic said he'd look into that properly when he did the belts..
