Cambelt service list **part's price update**

  182
I want to get my head around this and although there are a million cambelt threads allready i cant figure out exactly what i want to by reading through them
I basically want to know what parts exactly are needed
Please make a list
Eg;
•cambelt
•aux belt
•dephaser-please explain about this
•pullies-?? I hear the word pullies but what exactly is this? Is the dephaser ive listed above what a pullie is or is there something else?
•anything else?

I know people normally get a serice aswell, i understand the normal service items its simply the belts part i want to know and clarify in my own head

Thanks and sorry as said i know there are allready millions of threads about "belts"

Re: Cambelt...list everything needed in a change

cambelt kit - belt, 2 idlers and a tensioner
aux belt kit - belt, tensioner and an idler
dephaser - part of the VVT, inlet camshaft pulley, optional if you change it, if you don't and it starts rattling 6months later you need a new cambelt again

Re: Cambelt...list everything needed in a change

So a cambelt kit and aux kit would come with everything youve listed ther Fred? For example, if i went to get my cambelt and aux belt changed, i prosume the idlers and tensioners would be included and no were would simply just fit the belt itself? I wouldnt have to askfor the idlers and tensioners to be changed aswell would i?

Dephaser i realise is optional and seperate to the belts then, cheers. ( i would get that changed aswell to be safe)

Re: Cambelt...list everything needed in a change

99% of "normal" garages would just change ONLY the aux belt and not fit the full kit

Re: Cambelt...list everything needed in a change

Great cheers Fred thats exactly what i wanted to know.at least im aware what needs to be changed.
I spoke to you just over a month ago about getting it done but travel may have to put me off coming so i wabt to make sure i know in my head exactly whats what.either way il not be going to a normal garage.
Theres a place in newcastle (20 mins away) who are renault specialists who i prosume would be up to the job
Thanks again

Re: Cambelt...list everything needed in a change

You want someone who's a renaultsport specialist really. There's been a lot of cases of Renault dealerships and Renault garages cocking up cambelt changes.it's worth the extra drive to see Fred....

  Discounted 1*2 parts
Re: Cambelt...list everything needed in a change

Compulsory
Cambelt kit
Auxilary belt kit
Camshaft end caps (core plugs) - for after the camshaft locking/timing tools have been used
Optional
Dephaser pulley (if rattling - we rarely see one go on this engine, however you read about it a lot on here!)
Water pump + coolant (if showing signs of leaking)

A lot of people also talk about replacing the crankshaft pulley bolt

If its of any use I can supply these parts with good discounts

Bringing up this thread again, do genuine renault belt kits need to be used or not?

Whats to cheap Fred, the £240 for labour?
What do you think about the price on the parts? I asked for discount and told him id allready been quoted cheaper than what he was saying so said hel call back with a price for all parts and gave £493 which is allmost £100 off original price....surely this is good price for genuine parts?
The £240 is labour only, il also be providing coolant, oil and a filter

  ITB'd MK1
didn't see the water pump actually, my bad. you forgot to add the 2 prices together though, one is the parts th other is labour, so he's been quoted £737

  182
£733 actually ;) lol
The place im going to get it done is in newcastle as its close to me, they are renault specialist, not aswell known as you guys on here(well they arnt even on here anyway) but quite a few people whov been said they were spot on.when i rang thwy were spot on with me and sounded like they knew what they were on about, they were happy i actualy wanted the dephaser doing as they said moat people dont listen to them when they mention it
They also said if inprovide my own parts it will be cheaper for me, i questioned any warrwnty issues and they said it wouldnt affect ther work in anyway if i provide my own parts etc

  182
that's brave of them!

The warrenty part? I deliberatly asked as theyd said its better for me to provide own parts and said it wouldnt affect any work they do, and said parts would have their own warrenty also if they were faulty
Also said not that anything would happen, they were just answering my question

  182
or stupid. I make it very clear that there's no warranty on anything i dont supply

Lol...they do seem very genuine and have done a fair amount of these engines as a lot of local people have been using them.as said they are actually renault specialists, thers a few things about them on here which are all good, also a lad whos timing was outnwent and they sorted it for him which is good yo know

if someone came to me with their own parts (i wouldn't do the job full stop anyway) and i did the job

and there was some form of issue caused by the parts, you being an individual with no form or "clout" behind you trying to claim against a parts company - no chance

i'll put it this way, i've had 25 dodgy cambelt kits in a 3 month period (3 different makes, including renault themselves) that's knocking on for a £20K fix, and i'm struggling to prove my case, you stand no chance

all cars have been fixed out of MY pocket

for a cambelt kit, aux belt kit, depasher and water pump - the price yu quoted wouldn't even cover that parts

if you know your arse from you elbow (i've just informed the other traders) then you know what to look for, dodgy cambelt tensioners!

It must if ther going to give me them for that price lol? Surely theyl still be making £ anyway, wests on here gave me a quote which was only slightly higher than this so it must be poasible for th to supply the parts at that price, like i said initialy he gave me higher prices but i asked howuch discount he could give me

  Lionel Richie
cabelt kit - £125
aux kit - £125
dephaser - £170
water pump - £45
oil and filter (HAS to be done with dephaser swap) - £35

total - £500

WITHOUT LABOUR
