my poor car.
driving down A130 today
doing 60....

and all power went. and engine cut out.
managed to get to side of road.

after fiddling with the usual stuff decided to call the recovery team

the guy looked about for awhile and said that the cambelt is gone :(

i know this is a very expensive job...
but that it is also possible to do at home..

only thing is apparently it might have caused damage to the head.

any one know of prices roughtly??

If you can't justify the price of fixing it, I'll buy it off you I'm only up the road so can collect when ever with a trailer :)

Most likely bent valves as you was doing 60 - 70. Also pistons will have dents depending how bad they are they can be kept.
If you have never done them before you will need a couple of new tools to get the job done. Also about a weeks work lol.
Garage will charge any where from 500 - 700 to fix.

If that was me I would put a new engine in it.

Turn the bottom pulley with a spanner/socket and open the oil filler, see if you can see the valves moving.

I managed to repair a sanpped cambelt on my old 1.2 8v for under £100

Got the head skimmed for £40
Valves from GSF £5 each - did them all
Valve Grinding paste kit £3.50
Gasket Kit £30 - ebay ;)

Then labour was all my self!

Still runs sweet as 10k+ late :approve:

^^ What he said.

Spanner on the bottom pulley where the Aux belt goes onto and turn it. While looking into the oil filler cap place. If you see ANY THING moving in there you know the cam belt isn't snapped.

If you see nothing moving then its engine apart time :)

What about a cam belt :p add that to your list or did you use the old one :p Super glue

Also just remembered.
On the d-type engine (I'm guessing this what yours is).
There is a cap on the side of the cam cover. You can pull this off and see if the cam belt is going over the cam pulley. If its lose or not there at all its snapped :)

if you've no power tools (impact gun), you need to lock the flywheel with something heavy duty (pry-bar, screwdriver etc) then get a big breaker bar on there. You're not going to be able to get it undone with a ratchet

is it easy to put a PAS from one engine to another?

Putting PAS on yours will mean steering rack pump and all the hoses and maybe a pulley.
Long annoying job :p
