Can anyone help

  Clio 182
Hello I am new to this site I bought a 05 182 in December. Really happy with the car but two weeks ago I had to have the timing belt pulley and kit done which cost me £500 I hear they are a common problem on the sports. But since I have had it done when I accelerate it makes a sort of ticking noise it took it back to the garage twice but they said they can't find anything wrong with it do anyone know what it could be.

Sounds like the cam timing is out ? And if they have not used the correct locking tools that may be the answer

I got an invoice but all it says is parts and labour not detailed parts. I no it might sound daft but is the dephaser pulley and timing pulley the same because he told me they was

Yeah it is a pulley of sorts. Not an ordinary one though because it creates the VVT.

If it runs it's unlikely you'll cause damage driving it but it's definitely best to get it sorted asap.

He might have been referring to the timing pulleys that are used to tension and idle the belt.

The dephasor is quite expensive, in fact assuming yours is a non cup, if using genuine parts it puts the parts bill alone to over 300 quid at trade price.

If the tapping is a slight bit of valve contact when the pulley is active then driving it is a bad idea, if the tapping is the dephasor pulley worn out it will get worse and worse and noisier and noisier but is unlikely to actually cause any bigger problems.

Well I didn't read the first post properly, completely missed the ticking thing.

Valve + piston = bad
