first one of the alarm sensors on a 172/182 on the pillars, and

second one of the light near the gearknob that flashes when the alarm is active.

I can later, but prob be tomorrow now. They're pretty obvious if you've got them mate, small red led beside the gearstick and little 'speaker'-type things in each top corner of the windscreen.

If you get the reg or VIN number of the car , then phone Renault UK they will tell you if its a UK or European vehicle .

That's odd. The ones on my Trophy and 182 looked like Nige's, but the ones on my Import 172 (Sigma Alarm) looked like Pete's, but Pete's can't be an import as it's a Trophy. I guess it's whatever they have in stock at the time at the import centre. lol

If you don't have those Johners I'd get straight onto your dealer, occasionally the import centre do forget to fit the alarm, but it's very rare. Unless your car is an import, in which case it won't have them and you have to pay to get an alarm fitted. Where's the car from?

I bought the car from a garage in Surrey (not a renault dealer) I am the second owner.. When I insured the car on my certificate it shows as a 172, when it is a 182??? I phoned dvla who confirmed that the car is a renaultsport 182 and confirmed the engine size etc which is correct.. So I phoned Renault customer services who checked the chassis number and confirmed it is not an import but it was not bought from a renault dealer when new but from the factory direct??? when I insured the car I gave them the reg of the car so not sure why there records shpw it as a 172?? really confused:S :S

my gf's (the car in question, as i have a Saxo) doesnt say a model on the V5, only that its a renault, will check ring them and check if its an import later, but im a bit gutted, cos u just expect everything to be fine dont u!

Sounds to me like you've got a parallel import..

That's what my 172 was, and I had to pay £200 to get an alarm fitted. It still had 3 years warranty though..

just checked the V5 and all it says is renault clio sport, the previous keeper lived in weybridge.. another thing i noticed is the v5 says 2 previous keepers?? I am the second,, not unless it was the garage...

Got the same sensors as Pistol Pete in my 53 UK Cup, can't remember that light near the gear stick though, thought mine was in the instrument panel? Will have to check now!

Johners, mine has had "two previous keepers" but has only had one real owner, the first was Renault in Wolverhampton...pre-registered I guess as they didn't have it long.

It just means it was imported from inside the EU, which doesn't affect the warranty but they generally don't have alarms, locking wheel nuts or security window etching. Grey imports are brought in from countries like Cyprus, Japan or the US.

A lot of the cheaper cars you can buy through firms like (I think-correct me if I'm wrong) Motorpoint are parallel imports and/or pre-registered to keep the prices lower than main dealers.

my GF's must definitely be an import then cos the other day i realised it had no locking nuts!

just rang renault in Hull and they quoted me £110 for the alarm and £247+vat to fit... f**k that!

Insurance has now been changed, it went up another £7.00 for the year which I can cope with....

On to DVLA tommorow to see about getting the log book changed..

lol atleast it was only £7 to sort the insurance. Better than them saying you've insured the wrong car in the event of a claim.

Yeah, call Renault UK (Griff, who are Renault CS??? ), and they can send you a letter confirming you have the full 3 year warranty - they did for me.

At least you can get it all sorted now, and they're still good cars!

well bugger me, my gf's is an 02 so its way out of warranty so that doesnt apply, and she bought it private so she can't exactly kick up a fuss. (only bought it 2 weeks back)

Like you say though, at least we are to the bottom of it.

yeah it is still under warranty cause it has been in for some warranty work.. But will still phone renault for a letter confirming this..

Spoke to DVLA, got to send the log book back to them with a covering letter and they will make the changes..

Even after all this my car is still fab and wouldnt change it for the world.. well maybe a V6!!!!
