Can the speedo be reset!

  1/4 mile 14.9 @ 92mph
I want to know if the speedo can be reset, because my speedo under reads.......30mph is more like 45mph!

My speedo starts under 10mph instead of on 10mph and would like to know if it can be adjusted without going into renault.

Has it got different dials in? ie white backing? Someone may have had the needle off and put it back wrong, bit of a pain in the ass to be fair! Fiddly!

try having it calibrated?

where can this be done? renault told me that because I had 182 wheels on my 1.2 dynamique (they are 1 inch bigger than standard alloys!) that this is why my speedo is wrong.. tho it seems to be the opposite to yours. If im doing 45mph my speedo reads 60mph... 70mph reads 100mph.. this is when I compare what my dads garmin sat nav says to the speedo... its really annoying that it just cant be fixed and read the proper speed!

cant renault calibrate them?

My local renault told me that nothing could be done to fix it because my chassi wasnt built to have wheels any larger than the 15inch standard alloys.. I argued that surely its a common problem as lots of people put non standard alloys on their cars but they were having none of it so I left.

If you fit the right profile of tyre, it won't affect your speedo. My Cup has 195/45/16s on, if I went up to 17's, I'd fit 205/40/17s.

Usually, for every inch you go up in diameter, you go up 10mm on the width and down 5% on the profile.

surely that the chassis are same/simular and i dont understand why that would effect what wheels you would be able to put on your car :S

if the 182's can read accuraly with those wheels then the normal ones could

Your rolling radius needs to be the same, otherwise the speedo will over or under read.

i dont understand either.. just typical renault... its not that big a deal to me as I know what speed im doing cause ive compared it to the sat nav.. but if I ever sell then its explaining this to someone else which would prob put a buyer off! lol

thats it.. think i remember them saying something about that.. can that be adjusted? and would it also affect the mileage counter as I swear my car says im doing more miles than im actually doing.

Renault said it was a computer problem and was £480 to have a new one fitted!! i refuse to pay that, there must be another way

The company that calibrates the speedos in our works BMWs are based in Nottingham, but I doubt that they would be cheap.

The rolling radius is a physical 'thing' and can't be reset. I'll try and explain.

If your car has 14 inch wheels, with 175/65/14 tyres, the rolling diameter is roughly 591 mm. (That's the size of wheel and tyre combined)

If you fit 195/45/16s, the rolling diameter will be 591mm also, thus keeping the speedo correct.

What size tyres did it have before?
