CAN Clip - anyone in Oxfordshire area? Steering angle sensor reset..

Hello all,

I need to reset the steering angle sensor on my 182. Is there anyone in Oxfordshire(ish!) that has CLIP and can help? Happy to pay, obviously.
Not getting much joy with the local specialist!

Alternatively, if anyone knows of a way to reset the sensor without CLIP I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,
Justin.

You can set it using a decent diagnostic tool like the one from iCarsoft.

See my thread here which explains how to do it. https://cliosport.net/threads/clio-182-track-car-daily-projects.830168/page-2#post-11849892

The diagnostic tool pretty much tells you what you need to do.

Thank you. Do you know if iCarsoft reset the value as well as read it? Getting hold of a replacement steering angle sensor is proving difficult - seems they are currently unavailable.

I recently changed the aftermarket steering wheel on my car back to the original. Since then, as soon as I turn the wheel the ESP and SERV light comes on. I know the sensor is physically positioned correctly, but understand that it can be reset using CLIP and perhaps other diagnostic tools etc.

You basically set the angle sensor yourself by lining the Yellow dot up, and then iCarsoft calibrates it.

It has a specific module for setting up the sensor. 2 minute job.

They can be reset yes, but if you see that -8xxxxxx code coming up, then the sensor is knackered. I cover this in my thread. You'll struggle to get a good one, so just get in touch with all the Renault breakers and fingers crossed. I have 2 in my garage which I bought but they were knackered.

Where are you based? I'm up in North Yorkshire/Darlington and don't mind lending you mine.

Fab. I've ordered an iCarsoft and should get it tomorrow so hopefully I can get a bit closer. I didn't want to buy a tool that could tell me the sensor was kaput but then have to get someone - or go to a dealer - with CLIP to reset it. iCarsoft sounds ideal.

Cool. I've pretty much been able to keep 3 Clio 182's out of the garages using it. Not as good as Clip of course, but it's pretty good at most things.

Let us know how you get on.

Well, the iCarsoft arrived today. I've just spent a couple of minutes on it, and it get the same erroneous value -81922.75°, so the search is on (joy!) for a new sensor.

Thanks for the kind offer of assistance - I'm in Oxford unfortunately, so a bit of a trek, but thanks anwyay.

Have you taken the wheel back off to check how the sensor is currently set? If you’re not careful then they can turn without you realising when fitting the wheel.

It happened to me when I changed mine and after redoing it I never had to plug it in to reset.

Ah that’s what I feared. Try Renparts 🤞🏻

I can't see how swapping the wheel over has suddenly broken the angle sensor.
That’s how mine broke - allegedly. I took it in to Kris at Rensport who put it on Clip and he wasn’t able to set it up. The only thing I did was switch a steering wheel over 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bought 2 more after that, 1 of which was a duff, the other worked. The -81922.75° that the iCarsoft threw up was present on both dead sensors.

That’s my view anyway, but happy to hear other opinions 😊

Added - the angle sensor was removed from the column though. Maybe that’s how it was damaged.

Yeah that's weird.

I removed mine when I stripped it down to do the heater matrix and taped it in position and it still threw a wobbly when plugged back in.

Managed to tweak it by hand afterwards and that cleared the lights.

Underneath the angle sensor when you pop it out, on the main part that the wiper and lights stalks are, there's a small little cog wheel looking thing with a 0 mark on it and that appears to line up with a mark on the angle sensor when in the straight ahead position.

I must have disturbed that on mine as when I tweaked it so it lined up, the lights went out.

The thing with the yellow dot in the window as well, I'm sure it stays in view for 1 full turn, so effectively you could be a turn out of position. There's an old thread on here describing the yellow/blue dots.

Yeah I read the thread when I was doing mine. I tried all sorts but they kept showing that code. Stuck the 3rd one on and hey presto, it worked.

Can the i car soft report injector faults, like incorrect dead times due to sticky valves?

Like how detailed is it?

All the clip tools ive seen come with laptops coz you renault only want dealers to have em it seems.

This cars getting on my tits now.

Resealed all the exhaust joints from the manifold back and it still smells of burnt fuel in the cabin.

I’ve now got a knock when pulling away. So am ordering mounts as we speak.

I took the steering wheel off and checked the angle sensor. Put it on the yellow dot and all the lights are still on the dash… (Service/abs/tc) etc

I also did some testing on the way home and have found that the abs isn’t working at all as it’ll happily lock up.

Bit lost so may get it booked in to two techs to plug it in.

Im back to a solid Eml light now. But it’ll start flashing if I idle for any length of time….

Typically the f**king discs turned up midday whilst I was down at the unit. So haven’t managed to replace the rear brakes.

Bit of a t**t of a day tbh. Although I have mostly resolved my rubbing issue by bending those brackets out of the way. So that’s something I suppose.
